SAN FRANCISCO (KGTV) – The first case of coronavirus with unknown origin has been confirmed in Northern California. The resident hasn’t traveled overseas since the outbreak began, the CDC said Wednesday. It’s unknown how the patient got the virus. "At this time, the patient's exposure is unknown. It's possible this could be an instance of community spread of COVID-19, which would be the first time this has happened in the United States. Community spread means spread of an illness for which the source of infection is unknown," the agency said in a statement. SANTA ANA (CNS) - Orange County health officials reported a record number of coronavirus cases for the second consecutive day Sunday, announcing 434 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two additional deaths.The numbers bring the county's totals to 10,422 cases and 269 deaths, and follow Saturday's reporting of 413 newly confirmed cases and 10 deaths.The Orange County Health Care Agency said last week was the county's deadliest since the pandemic began, with 55 COVID-19 deaths reported between June 13-19.The number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus rose from 321 to 332, with the number of patients in intensive care dropping from 135 to 133.A total of 212,113 people have been tested for the virus, with 789 tests reported Sunday.There have been 4,953 documented recoveries, according to the OCHCA.The total number of Orange County cases break down to 50% men and 50% women, but men account for 57% of the deaths.Santa Ana leads all county cities with 2,189 cases, followed by Anaheim with 2,007. Their high numbers are attributed to large populations and the presence of multiple nursing homes in both cities. Santa Ana and Anaheim are Orange County's two largest cities in population.Dr. Clayton Chau, the Health Care Agency director and interim chief health officer, said the "hot spots" of Santa Ana and Anaheim "keep me up at night" with concern. (KGTV)— The border shutdown at the San Ysidro Port of Entry Sunday created a ripple effect for transportation and nearby businesses.Many people were stranded at the port crossing for five hours before Homeland Security reopened the lanes in the evening. Christmas shopping at the Las Americas Outlet Mall came to an abrupt stop for Maria Martinez. "The mall was closed. She was shopping when she was told to leave the mall suddenly. Minutes prior, she claimed she saw a swath of caravan migrants rush the back of the mall, which the CBP denies."I saw the Salvadorenos people trying to cross the border,” Martinez said. “It was like watching a movie. I couldn’t believe it. I saw everything.”Customs and Border Protection closed off the San Ysidro Port of Entry late Sunday morning. Then the California Highway Patrol blocked off both the 805 and 5 Freeways south of the 905 interchanges. American federal agents in full tactical gear lined up along the border, at times using tear gas and rubber bullets to deter migrants.  "Over there, there was smoke and the noise of the gun,” Martinez said. At this point, there are no reports of any of the migrants successfully crossing the border. Martinez said she saw federal agents turn them around. The bus depot next to the mall was also closed, leaving shoppers like Martinez stuck and not knowing when they could get home. "I don't know. I think it's going to close the border. When everything is in peace, they are going to open. What time? SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - After a heart attack nearly killed him at age 46, Adam Bavario is now thanking his doctors, and his dog.For 27 years Bavario was a medic and police officer in Los Angeles. He says while he loved the job it caused a lot of added stress on him physically and mentally. During his 30's Bavario started having health issues and chest pains, but every time doctors ran tests they couldn't find anything wrong.The misdiagnosis almost killed him five months ago. "I knew I was having a heart attack. I went to grab my phone and passed out on the floor," said Bavario.He was suffering one of the deadliest heart attacks, known as the widow maker. "One of his major arteries was 100 percent blocked, and if that doesn’t get opened in time or quickly, there's a potential for something catastrophic," said Dr. Karim El-Sherief, an Interventional Cardiologist at Tri-City Medical Center.While unconscious, Bavario's sleeping dog Roxy awoke and sensed he was in trouble, licking and nudging him until he woke up. “The ironic thing about Roxy is Roxy is completely deaf from birth, she had enough awareness to come in and get me up," said Bavario.He was able to call 911 and then first responders from the San Marcos Fire Department got Bavario to Tri-City Medical Center in minutes. Dr. El-Sherief and his team were able to treat Bavario in record time for the hospital, 27 minutes. Now Bavario is using his free time to advocate for cardiac awareness. "What I can tell you is get checked out, do your routines," Bavario says.Dr. El-Sherief says with proper screenings along with diet and exercise, these heart attacks can be prevented.
