SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- 64 veterans from WWII and Korean wars have departed San Diego early Friday morning on their “Tour of Honor” which takes them to various memorials in Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight San Diego program.It's a journey of a lifetime for many of the veterans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A coffee shop owner in City Heights has planted a handful of coffee trees in his garden. He plans to be at the forefront of the "small-batch coffee" movement growing across San Diego."I'm learning more and more about coffee, and it's just becoming way more intriguing to me, and it's fascinating," says Justin Boone, the owner of Burly and the Bean.Boone says he planted his first tree about 18 months ago, after talking to friends about the idea. He got more interested as he heard of local farms planting the trees in large quantities."I guess it's a little risky," says Boone, "because I really don't know what the outcome is going to be."Boone says his trees won't produce enough beans to harvest for another 2-3 years. But he's excited to taste the first cup from his crop.Meanwhile, coffee is becoming a trendy new crop across the County.Frinj Coffee currently manages around a dozen farms in San Diego that have planted coffee trees. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A couple of thieves hosted an unintentional comedy act after surveillance cameras captured them making a huge mess inside a Normal Heights salon. Salon Bordeaux is reaching a big milestone."We are getting ready to celebrate our 14th anniversary here on Adams Avenue," salon co-owner, Laura Price said. But Price in not quite ready to celebrate. "Somebody threw a rock through a window and climbed through," Price said. Just before 2:30 a.m. Friday, their surveillance cameras caught two people attempting a smash-and-grab at the salon. One of the men threw a rock through the side window and climbed through. The two headed straight to the counter. They pried open the cash drawer with a crowbar and took off. But not before one of them tripped over and broke the side table. He then realized he forgot his crowbar, so he climbed back in to get it, and hurried off.But Price said the joke's on them. "Fortunately, we do not keep any cash in the salon overnight, so they didn't get much, except for hopefully some injury from the glass," Price joked. This isn't their first break-in. Almost four years ago to the day, Salon Bordeaux was one of 15 small businesses in Normal Heights to be a victim of burglary. Back then, criminals got away with ,000, their client appointment book, and computer."We learned a lot from the first incident, and this time we were ready," Price said. Since then, they installed multiple security cameras. They never leave cash overnight and instilled new safety practices. So this time, the clumsy thieves made off with nothing. "We just want to spread the word and make sure that other businesses are as prepared as we were this time. It could've been a lot worse. None of the staff was hurt, and really, all we have to do is deal with the glass and replacing it," Price said. San Diego Police has not made any arrests at this time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 2-year-old-boy died and three other children became ill as a result of E. Coli linked to contact with animals at the San Diego County Fair, health officials said Friday. Four cases of infections have been confirmed in children ranging from 2 to 13 years old, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency.1st case: A 13-year-old girl visited the fair on June 8. Illness onset began on June 10. The girl is currently recovering and was not hospitalized.2nd case: A 11-year-old girl visited the fair on June 8 and 12. Illness onset began on June 12. The girl is currently recovering and was not hospitalized.3rd case: A 9-year-old boy visited the fair on June 13. Illness onset began on June 16. The boy is currently recovering and was not hospitalized.4th case: A 2-year-old boy visited the fair on June 15. Illness onset began on June 19. Boy suffered from hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and was hospitalized. The boy died on June 24.The 2-year-old boy, identified by family members as Jedediah Cabezuela, died from Shiga-toxin-producing E. Coli (STEC). Health officials said Saturday there were no other clusters of Shiga-toxin in the county.E. Coli can cause the complication HUS. The condition destroys red blood cells and causes the kidneys fail, which can lead to death.The source of the E.Coli bacteria is under investigation by the County Department of Environmental Health, and Health and Human Services Epidemiology Program. County inspectors said the illnesses had no link to any food facilities the children accessed. SATURDAY PRESS CONFERENCE:All children visited the animal areas or the petting zoo, or had other animal contact at the fair, county health officials said. San Diego County Fair officials have closed public access to all animal areas, including the petting zoo, at the livestock barn on the eastern side of the Del Mar Fairgrounds.The cases are not directly related, officials said.Fair and health officials says they haven't definitively linked the cases to animals at the fair, but all cases share that factor and they are taking the proper precautions. Fair organizers expressed Saturday they are confident the fair is safe and secure for visitors.Fair CEO Tim Fennell and Deputy General Manager Katie Mueller held a news conference late Friday night saying they were notified about the children’s illnesses Friday morning, and told Friday night the boy had died. The family of Cabezuela gathered Saturday for a fundraiser at Rosie O'Grady's restaurant in Normal Heights. A GoFundMe account for funeral expenses topped more than ,000 by Saturday night.Fair officials say the fairgrounds will reopen Sunday through July 4, but "activities involving direct animal interaction" have been suspended. County health officials asked anyone who experienced the symptoms on or after June 8 to contact their healthcare provider. People who do not wash their hands after petting an animal, or bring food or drinks into an area with animals, increase their chance of getting sick, CDC officials said.
