If Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were like any other school, you wouldn't think much of the freshly-painted burgundy hallways or the newly-installed 20-foot tall fences around the freshman building. If this were a normal student body, the eyes of the nation wouldn't be trained on their every move, and their summer break stories wouldn't include a tally of rallies, summits, nationwide tours and TV appearances. In any other place, in any other new school year, things would be as they were. But when your school is also the site of one of the deadliest school shootings in American history, nothing is ever really normal. Those fences, covered with "MSD Strong" and "Parkland Strong" banners, surround the shuttered building where a former student opened fire almost exactly six months ago. Those hallways are the same ones students rushed through on Valentine's Day as the gunshots rang out across campus. There are other changes, too.The school's swimming coach is now the athletic director, because the former AD was among those killed that day. There are now two principals at MSD, because the basic demands of running a school are now joined by the demands of managing a community in crisis. It's the little things like this; a change in paint color or a change in command, that reverberate outward like strange ripples, hinting at something bigger under the surface. 1383

If you fell in love with country music’s stars and hits of the early 90s, you’re in luck. This Sunday’s ACM Awards will pay tribute to three of the biggest hit songs from 1993 with collaborations between the original artist’s and their contemporary counterparts.Arguably the most anticipated performance of the entire show will pair two Oklahoma natives together. Toby Keith will perform his debut single “Should Have Been a Cowboy” with People’s current Sexiest Man Alive, Blake Shelton. The two performers share more than a common birthplace. They’re also linked in country music history.Blake Shelton’s debut single was nearly “I Wanna Talk About Me”. After recording it, his record label decided to pass on the song, and instead, Toby Keith scooped it up and turned it into a number one hit record. The ACMs will also feature a performance of the CMA Song of the Year, “Chattahoochee”. Alan Jackson will be joined by Jon Pardi, who’s nominated for Album of the Year.Back in 2015, the duo toured together with Pardi acting as Jackson’s opener. Pardi counts Jackson as one of his heroes, and credits a complimentary Jackson quote as motivating him to write his album “California Sunrise”.Jackson was quoted saying, “Of all the new guys I’ve heard, I like that Jon is closer to country than most of the others and I thought his songwriting was better than what I’ve heard in a while.”Finally, the ACM host herself, Reba McEntire, will perform “Does He Love You”, which was originally released as a duet with Linda Davis. In Davis’s place, will be Kelly Clarkson.McEntire and Clarkson share more than a love of performing, they’re also related. Clarkson is married to Reba’s step-son, Brandon Blackstock, and is the mother to two of Reba’s grandchildren. The 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards airs Sunday on CBS at 7 p.m. CT. 1833

If you're trying to avoid political ads in the closing days of the campaign, you might want to avoid morning shows and daytime TV. Using data provided by the data firm Kantar Media / CMAG, Cover/Line looked at the TV shows that have aired the most political ads in 2018 as of October 30, about how much was spent to air them, and who aired the most. The top buyers for these shows were all either the Republican PAC Congressional Leadership Fund, the Democratic group Senate Majority PAC, or Sen. Jon Tester, a Montana Democrat whom President Trump has campaigned to replace with Republican Matt Rosendale and who was able to air more ads on top shows for a much lower rate in Montana. Here's the top ten: 711

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- A California man has been charged with poisoning eight homeless people with an incredibly spicy resin derived from chili peppers so that he could videotape their reactions.Authorities in Southern California's Orange County say 38-year-old William Robert Cable fed the victims food laced with oleoresin capsicum, which is twice as strong as pepper spray used by police. The victims suffered seizure-like symptoms, difficulty breathing, vomiting and intense mouth and stomach pain. Some had to be hospitalized.Cable was arrested last month in Huntington Beach and prosecutors announced Thursday that he's been charged with nine felonies and various misdemeanor counts.Cable is being held in jail on 0,000 bail. 751
