(KGTV) - Scientists are using an autonomous underwater vehicle to help get purified wastewater to your faucets.  The remote-controlled sub operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography helps measure how the purified water mixes with the Lake Jennings reservoir water.It’s one of the state-required steps water officials need to take before purified wastewater from the Padre Dam Water District’s Advanced Water Purification System is introduced to homes through Helix Water District’s Lake Jennings and water treatment facility.“There’s that factor that it’s coming from a waste facility originally.  So, what happens if there’s some sort of failure that didn’t get caught? Well, now there’s a buffer. There’s a buffer. It will sit in the reservoir,” said Helix’s Director of Water Quality Brian Olney.If all goes as planned, Padre Dam will need to expand its Advanced Water Purification System and build a pipeline to deliver that water to Lake Jennings.  Olney said that could happen by 2023. 1045

LAGUNA BEACH – A Tesla sedan that was traveling in autopilot mode crashed into a parked police vehicle in Laguna Beach Tuesday, according to KABC.Both vehicles were damaged after the crash, which sent the police vehicle sliding onto a sidewalk.The police SUV was unoccupied at the time of the crash and he driver of the Tesla sedan received minor injuries.Tesla previously said that its autopilot systems shouldn’t be used in spots with intersections, stop signs, red lights or suddenly changing traffic patterns.Drivers are also supposed to keep their hands on the wheel to maintain control of the vehicle, Tesla says.The circumstances surrounding the crash are unknown at this time. 692

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Several streets were shut down in La Mesa Sunday morning after someone reportedly opened fire at a motorcyclist. Police say the shooting happened around 3 a.m. at the intersection of University Avenue and Marian Street. According to police, someone fired at least three shots at the motorcyclist, causing him to crash into a nearby fence. The motorcyclist wasn’t hit with gunfire during the shooting, but police say he was taken to the hospital with leg injuries due to the crash. At this time police are searching for a dark-colored sedan last seen heading east on University after the shooting. 631

Simpson at The Cosmopolitan Wednesday. Simpson was thrown out of the hotel-casino after accusations of being drunk. According to two witnesses, Simpson wasn't seen drinking and was not being unruly."He was very nice, very cordial," said Michelle Messer.Simpson's lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, told KTNV that the story about Simpson being drunk at The Cosmopolitan is completely untrue.LaVergne says that Simpson is a social drinker, meaning he usually orders one drink and sips on it while socializing, and that he was at the Cosmopolitan to eat chicken wings.LaVergne also told KTNV that the hotel-casino had apparently decided before Simpson's visit to trespass him from the property. LaVergne says that after Simpson was notified, he left the hotel-casino quietly.In addition, Simpson is challenging anyone with proof that he was drunk and belligerent to come forward. LAKELAND, Fla. -- A family argument on Mother's Day turned violent and ended in the arrest of a mother and a son in Lakeland, Florida. Seth Bryant, 27, was arrested for felony battery (domestic violence) on his father, 58-year-old Clayton Bryant, after deputies say Seth and Clayton got into a physical argument over alcohol. The father and son were arguing after Seth demanded he be allowed to have more alcohol, according to the arrest affidavits. Seth reportedly put his fist against his father's face and pushed him with it, deputies say. After deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene, Seth reportedly made numerous derogatory racial comments toward the deputy who is black. As Seth was being arrested, Judy Bryant, 54, shoved her husband against a counter and said "How's this for domestic violence?" She then refused commands by the deputies and resisted the deputy's efforts to arrest her. Ultimately, she was placed into handcuffs and was arrested. Judy Bryant was charged with misdemeanor battery (domestic violence). 1083
