BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Monday signed a series of political and commercial deals on his second state visit to China, a sign of closer strategic ties between the two world powers.Medvedev held talks with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao Monday in Beijing. They celebrated the completion of a long-awaited China-Russia oil pipeline, the largest bilateral project between the two countries.The 999-km pipeline runs from Angarsk in Russia to Daqing in northeast China. It is part of a bilateral loan-for-oil deal that was reached in 2009. Under it, China makes a 25-billion-U.S.-dollar long-term loan to Russia while Russia supplies China with 300 million tonnes of oil through pipelines from 2011 until 2030."The smooth completion of the pipeline project is a model for the two countries' mutually beneficial win-win cooperation and a milestone for China-Russia energy cooperation," said Hu at the completion ceremony.The two countries also signed 15 deals on cooperation covering coal, gas supply, energy efficiency, renewable energy, nuclear power, power grids and banking.Medvedev arrived in northeast China's port city of Dalian Sunday to start his state visit. There, he met with veteran Chinese and Russian soldiers who participated in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), part of WWII, underscoring the "deep bonds" between the Russian and Chinese peoples.

BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese political advisor Du Qinglin met Wednesday with Majallie Whbee, deputy speaker of the Israeli parliament, in Beijing.Speaking highly of the development of China-Israel relations, Du said it was in the interest of the two peoples and conducive to regional peace and stability to consolidate and promote bilateral friendly relations."China will work with Israel to elevate bilateral relations to a new high," Du said.Whbee said Israel and China had witnessed smooth development of bilateral relations. TIANJIN, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations' chief climate change negotiator applauded China on Monday for its efforts in dealing with the challenge of climate change, saying she was impressed by the determination of the Chinese people and their government.Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC), made the remarks in China's northern city of Tianjin at a welcoming reception held by the Chinese government.A new round of UN climate talks is being held in the port city on Oct. 4-9 in preparation for the year-end Cancun summit in Mexico."Here in Tianjin, I have seen much evidence of determination," said Figueres."(I saw the) determination of the government of China to reduce their CO2 emissions per unit of GDP by up to 45 percent by 2020, (and the) determination of the people of China to turn China into the world's leader in renewable energy technology and to find a visionary balance among economic development, poverty eradication and climate protection."Figueres also praised the host city, saying, "(I saw the) determination of the government of Tianjin, China's fourth-largest city, to be a model city for the circular economy, a pilot city for low-carbon growth and an exemplary city for sustainable development.""A striking example is the Tianjin Eco-City project between Singapore and China and with significant private sector investment, which will provide eco-friendly housing for some 350,000 people," she added.More than 3,000 delegates from 177 parties and observer states and over 200 non-governmental organizations are attending the Tianjin gathering, the final one prior to the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Cancun at the end of this year.Figueres concluded her speech at the reception with a Chinese proverb, "Zhong Zhi Cheng Cheng," which means "With everyone's determination, we can do anything." She also urged all the participants to make concerted efforts to reach a consensus during the climate talks.  

BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group on Sunday turned down the suggestion by Yahoo chief executive officer Carol Bartz that she be allowed to join the board of Alibaba, replying that Bartz should focus on improving Yahoo's own business first.Wang Shuai, chief marketing officer of Taobao.com under the group, said he has been "perplexed" by Bartz's decisions and attitudes since she became CEO of Yahoo in January 2009, claiming: "They demonstrate a lack of appreciation of the Internet, the mainland market and business partners."In response to Bartz's suggestion that she join the board of Alibaba, Wang said: "Perhaps it would not be a bad idea for her to concentrate her efforts on improving Yahoo's current situation."On Friday, Bartz touted Yahoo's 39 percent investment in Alibaba, a day after the Chinese Internet company said Yahoo had rejected its offer to sell the stake back to the group.The 62-year-old executive said the ideal time for Yahoo to exit from Alibaba will be after Taobao.com and Alipay.com, Alibaba's online shopping and payment subsidiaries, go public. She added that she will "probably" join the company's board later this year, when Yahoo gets a second seat on the board under its 2005 agreement with the company.Wang said on Sunday that Alibaba had no plans for Taobao.com to go public.Alibaba sold a 39 percent stake in the company to Yahoo in 2005 for billion and ownership of Yahoo China.The relationship between the two companies has been deteriorating recently, especially after Bartz replaced Yahoo's co-founder, Jerry Yang, to become chief executive of the company.
