SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A homeless man walking through a church parking lot was viciously mauled by two stray pit bulls early Wednesday morning.The victim was discovered by a passerby at around 1 a.m. outside the New Creation Church located at 3115 Altadena Ave. in the Chollas Creek neighborhood, according to San Diego police.The unidentified victim told 10News that he was walking through the parking lot when he was suddenly attacked by two pit bulls.He says the pit bulls repeatedly bit him in the face, head, and entire body until the dog owner pulled them off. The owner of the dogs did not stay with the victim or check on his status, the victim told 10News.The dogs whereabouts are unknown.Police found a dog harness at the scene and have turned the investigation over to county animal control.The victim was transported to an area hospital with multiple lacerations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man was taken into custody after he was seen damaging the lobby at the San Diego Police Department’s downtown headquarters.At around 5:30 a.m. Friday, an SDPD officer heard noise coming from inside of the building on 1401 Broadway and saw a man trashing the lobby.Other officers responded, and as they surrounded the lobby from the outside and inside, the man used a large stick or bat to smash glass doors.After some glass broke, officers converged and ordered him to drop the object.Officers deployed less-lethal rounds towards the man and struck him. Once he was on the ground, officers arrested him.Police are reviewing surveillance footage to determine where the man came from and how he ended up inside the building. 751

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Carlos woman's trip to the San Carlos library turned into nightmare after she was bitten by a dog.A large bruise and two puncture marks remain stamped on Tricia Erler's left thigh."I was in total shock," said Erler.On Tuesday afternoon, she had just finished a mind-and-body class inside the library, grabbed some magazines, and was headed into a lounge area to read."I was behind this woman's chair, and she got up abruptly and swung around in one movement ... she sort of fell into me, and I fell into the books. I felt a stabbing pain in my leg. I thought something had stabbed me from her backpack," said Erler.RELATED: Service dog or pet? You're bleeding and there are teeth marks on your leg," said Erler.Nearby, she saw what bit her: a leashed white dog, possibly an Australian Shepard, with black markings on its head. Next to the dog was the woman who had bumped into her. She was in her 20s or 30s with a stocky build. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was medevaced from a Carnival cruise ship Monday after a reported stroke. According to the Coast Guard, the rescue happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday roughly 45 miles northwest of San Diego. A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched to assist. Once on the scene, the Jayhawk crew lowered a rescue swimmer to the cruise ship to assess the 58-year-old man. The crew took the man to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla just after 9:20 p.m., according to the Coast Guard. The man is said to be in stable condition. 540

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man sentenced to life behind bars after being convicted of shooting his coworker in his face. Julio Narvaez pleaded guilty to opening fire at his Phamatech company in 2017. "The consequences are something he has to bare," said judge Laura Halgren at his sentencing on Friday. Narvaez pleaded not guilty to shooting his coworker in the face at their Carmel Mountain Ranch office. Police say they got into an argument when Narvaez pulled out a gun from his desk and opened fire. The victim, Michael Limbag, is also the cousin of Narvaez's wife. He's still recovering two years later. "He has hearing loss," said Halgren. "There’s a fragment bullet in his brain that could move at any time. He has headaches every day, nightmares."The defense brought in a neurologist to testify. He said Narvaez may have a connection to Alzheimer's, but could not make a definitive diagnosis. That move then backfired for the defense. "If this really did play a role in Mr. Narvaez’s behavior, then he poses a danger and will continue to pose greater danger," said Halgren. "Whatever degenerative process he has could be offered an explanation for some of the behavior but doesn’t excuse it."Police say Narvaez tried to shoot the victim at least twice, but the gun jammed.
