LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A deputy was uninjured following a crash involving a patrol car in Lakeside Thursday night. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened on Mapleview Street near State Route 67. Two vehicles were involved in the crash, but authorities say the deputy was uninjured. The condition of the other driver and the circumstances surrounding the crash are unclear. 421

LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) — Parents in Lemon Grove School District pulled their students from class Tuesday to protest against decisions being made, they say, without parent input. In March, 10News covered an emotional Lemon Grove school board meeting when parents fought to retain 16 teachers who had been designated for non-re-election. Those teachers chose to resign rather than have the designation placed on their permanent teaching records. The next regularly scheduled board meeting is Tuesday night, and parents plan to show up again to voice their complaints about the district, ranging from curriculum decisions, resource scarcity and student safety. One parent told 10News behavior issues are increasing in classrooms and the administration is failing to hold students accountable. A decline in classroom resources led her to pull one of her children from the district and enroll him in charter school. Several other parents at the rally say they have done the same, or are considering doing so, due to a variety of complaints. "We are not getting the basic resources and they are making decisions that don't make sense," says Rosa Carney. Tuesday's board meeting will be in open session at 6:00PM at Lemon Grove Library Community Room, 3001 School Lane, Lemon Grove. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego County Fair isn’t happening in 2020, but there are still ways to get your fair fix. There are virtual activities hosted through the fair, and one food vendor is still bringing fair food to the community. Chicken Charlie’s is known for deep-fried everything, from Oreos to meat, and this year, the new addition is deep fried taffy. While the fair won’t be happening, Charlie Boughosian has brought his trailer to the Grossmont Center in La Mesa to bring fried food to the community. Friday would have been the first day of the fair, so Charlie made it the first day of shop in the parking lot. “I’m feeling the same kind of pressure I feel on opening day of the fair,” he said Friday. (KGTV) -- People on social media are outraged after video shows a security guard questioning a mother's immigration status in a Target parking lot. The woman who recorded and posted the video, Sonia Serrano Zavala, says the guard was asking the mother if she is here legally when she started recording. The unidentified security guard can be heard in the video saying, "You’re illegally here and you’re having babies and you’re probably on welfare."The woman, seen holding a baby in the parking lot, was reportedly asking for money. Midway through the video, the security guard says "it's a scam" and claims the woman has a car and a condo.As of Sunday afternoon, the video received more than 600,000 views. The incident took place at a Target located in the Marketplace at the Grove Shopping Center near San Deigo. WARNING: The video below contains graphic language.  936

That’s the eye-raising message from the World Health Organization as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the globe.“There’s no better way to convey trust. No better way to convey camaraderie and humanity," said Dave Sylvester.Sylvester is what you may call a prolific hugger, traveling across the country and around the world, helping people in need, like buying dinner for essential workers and volunteering.“I am the hug man. I am the human high-five. I am all of that stuff,” he said.He’s on his way to Las Vegas where he held a personal record of more than 1,300 hugs back in 2017. But the pandemic has changed his routine due to social distancing.“I have gone from an average of 47 hugs and high fives a day to 9 hugs and high fives…since March,” he said.This comes as the WHO Monday asked people not to hug to prevent spreading COVID-19, especially in places like the U.S. where cases are spiking.“It’s a horrible thing to think that we would be here as the World Health Organization saying to people, don’t hug each other. It’s terrible, but that is the brutal reality in places like the United States right now,” Dr. Michael Ryan, executive director of the health emergencies program with the WHO.Psychologists say hugs can be great for mental health as it releases hormones that help with empathy and trust. While it’s not as good as hugging a real person or your pets, they say you might try hugging your pillow, or even a stuffed animal.“Don’t discount one of the secondary methods until you’ve tried it,” Jessica Shearin, a local psychologist, said.Sylvester says it’s unfortunate to not hug as much but says that’s not stopping him from meeting others.“We understood the severity of everything that’s going on and we just shared a smile.
