SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman was seriously injured when she crossed into the path of an oncoming car in Linda Vista, police said Saturday.A 72-year-old woman had just gotten off a bus at a stop on Linda Vista Road near Tait Street around 5:20 p.m., according to San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims. She walked to a marked crosswalk and began to walk across the street against the signal, Heims said.At the same time, the driver of an approaching Toyota did not stop for the pedestrian and hit her, Heims said.Paramedics were dispatched and the pedestrian was taken to a hospital. She suffered extensive head injuries, Heims said.Police don't believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. 700

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Lemon Grove man who aimed a laser pointer at a San Diego police helicopter during a police protest this summer is facing a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison following his conviction by a federal jury, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Thursday.Rudy Alvarez, 25, was found guilty by a jury in San Diego federal court late Wednesday for shining a laser at the SDPD chopper around 8:30 p.m. June 4 in the area of 500 University Ave.The U.S. Attorney's Office said Alvarez shined the laser at the chopper multiple times over the course of an hour as he marched with protesters through downtown San Diego.The count of aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft carries a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison and a 0,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 22.U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer called the result "a very important verdict" and said "This kind of crime could have a disastrous impact if a pilot's sight is compromised. We support the Constitutional rights of free speech and assembly, but the rule of law must be respected. Komen San Diego Race for the Cure.The event will raise funds for Komen's breast cancer programs, including mammography, financial assistance to patients and meal delivery.An opening ceremony is scheduled for 7:30 a.m., and the 5K run and 1K walk/run begin at 8 a.m. at Sixth Avenue and Palm Street on the west side of Balboa Park.According to Komen, six women a day are diagnosed with breast cancer in San Diego and one dies daily from the disease.However, the survival rate is nearly 99 percent if the most common form of breast cancer is detected early, Komen officials said. Many of the organization's programs, such as free mammograms for low-income women, are aimed at finding the disease as soon as possible.A closing awards ceremony will take place after the run.Online registration is closed. Both increases are a modest recovery for the housing market after housing sales tumbled by double digits from May to June.Median sales prices for both property types dipped slightly in July after steady gains each month of the year, save for attached property prices from March to April.
