SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Months after pricey photography equipment disappeared during a car burglary in Pacific Beach, the victim made a stunning discovery at an estate sale right in his own neighborhood.Near Pacific Beach Drive and Ingraham Street in February, Danny Desanti came out and found all the doors of his hatchback open. Desanti, a professional photographer, had loaded up the night before for an early morning shoot in Santa Barbara."Didn't want to wake up my baby, so I loaded items the night before ... huge loss for me," said Desanti. The loss was dozens of items and more than ,000 worth of missing equipment, painful for a small business owner."Since then, I've been slowly buying the stuff back and renting the gear," said Desanti.Nine months later, Desanti saw a sign for an estate sale less than a block from his home. The sale was taking place at a house of an elderly man he had never met.He stopped by and after some browsing inside, something caught his eye. He looked around and saw a lighting clamp which looked very familiar. That's when he peered in for a closer look."My heart skipped a beat. Couldn't believe it. Absolutely shocked," said Desanti.Written on the clamp was his last name. The clamp was stolen during the car break-in. He says he continued to browse and found a handful of other items that were taken, including cables and reflectors."Got goosebumps. The hair on back of neck stood up," said Desanti. After he ran back home to get his police report, the company handling the estate sale let him have stuff back. Most of his stolen equipment has yet to be recovered. "Anybody would bought any lighting equipment at the estate sale, I would really appreciate it if you would get in touch with me," said Desanti. The questions linger. How did his equipment end up at the estate sale?"You never think your neighbors would have your stolen goods," said Desanti. If you think you may have bought some of the items, including battery packs, a tripod, and a light modifier, email Tips@10news.com. 10News did reach out to the son of the man who passed away and are waiting to hear back. 2121

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One of San Diego's most famous malls is poised for a multi-million dollar renovation. On Wednesday, Fashion Valley will announce a project to add what it describes as inviting public spaces, enriched landscaping, broader dining and gathering places, tranquil outdoor lounges and water features, and increased personal shopping and valet services. It's the mall's biggest project since it added a second story in the mid-1990s. Vicki Hanor, a senior vice president with Simon Malls, said in a statement Fashion Valley is home to more than 50 retailers exclusive to San Diego, and prides itself on providing the ultimate shopping and dining experience. RELATED: Woman carjacked in parking lot of Fashion Valley Mall, threatened with knife"The proposed updates only seek to further enhance the overall guest experience and better reflect the San Diego lifestyle we all enjoy," Hanor said. Fashion Valley's project is the latest major facelift of a mall in San Diego.Westfield UTC recently added a new wing, plus an apartment tower. In Del Mar Heights, the new One Paseo just leased its entire retail wing. And in downtown, Horton Plaza will be transformed into a tech hub. Reg Kobzi, a senior vice president at commercial real-estate firm CBRE, said Fashion Valley remains one of San Diego's most successful malls, even drawing shoppers from Mexico. Still, he said it has to invest to retain that status. RELATED: Tommy Bahama bar and eatery, store coming to Fashion Valley Mall"It's a tough world out in the retail world, and so if you're competing for tenants, they want to be on par or be above them," Kobzi said.Kozbi said malls are trying to keep customers at the mall longer with more things to do. The longer they stay, the more money they are likely to spend, he said. Construction could start as early as Wednesday and will be complete by 2021. The mall says all shops will remain open during regular hours, and that parking will remain free. 1977

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - North Park business owners are pushing back against Mayor Kevin Faulconer's recent decision to remove upwards of 400 parking spots from 30th Street. The extra space would make way for protected bike lanes from Howard to Juniper, helping the city achieve climate action goals. "Eliminating all of the parking I think will effectively destroy some of the businesses that are here," Said Lara Worm, who owns Bivouac Ciderworks on 30th Street. In a May 16 memo, Faulconer said the decision would bring new mobility choices into the neighborhood and help with a dangerous situation for bicyclists and riders of dockless scooters.RELATED: Hundreds of parking spaces in North Park could be replaced with protected bike lanesThe plan calls for removing about 420 parking spaces and instead installing bollards that block off bike lanes, much like what is currently on J Street in downtown. Andy Hanshaw, who heads the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, said bike-friendly neighborhoods help businesses. "You're also adding comfort space for more people to access your business," he said. The North Park Main Street Association is now calling on the mayor to opt for an alternative that would keep about 200 spots on 30th, and protect bikes with parked cars as the barrier. The city installed a similar configuration on Beech Street. "It combines the two," said Angela Landsberg, the organization's executive director. "It allows the bikes to co-exist with the cars."In a statement, a spokesman for the mayor said discussions are ongoing, and that the office is committed to delivering a project that works for the community at large. He added that North Park has a severely underused parking garage at 30th and University, and that the current plan calls for adding 90 spaces in the areas adjacent to 30th Street. 1833
