SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego residents will have their chance to weigh in on the county's .4 billion budget for the fiscal year 2020-21, during two virtual public hearings this week.The proposed budget includes 0 million dedicated to testing, medical supplies, food distribution, and other needs related to the COVID-19 public health crisis. The budget also calls for the establishment of a new office of Equity and Racial Justice.Another million is earmarked for technological resources related to behavioral health services, including telehealth, electronic health record upgrades, outreach and engagement, workforce recruitment, and retention.The proposed spending plan is 9 million -- or 2.5% -- larger than the last fiscal year's budget.Residents can share their opinions on how they believe the money should be distributed on Monday at 9 a.m.There is another public meeting scheduled on August 12th at 5:30 p.m.County supervisors will vote on formally adopting the budget during their August 25th meeting.The public health crisis has pushed back a formal approval of the budget, which usually happens in June. 1136

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Strong Santa Ana winds moved through San Diego County Tuesday, toppling a big rig as it traveled on Interstate 8 near Alpine. The crash happened at 8:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes at Willows Road, blocking the left lane for about an hour and a half, CHP officer Jim Bettencourt reported. Another semi overturned on Interstate 15 in Fontana. San Diegan Bashar Shebo was driving through the area on his way to Las Vegas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Saturday was a picturesque day in San Diego with many people enjoying outdoor dining, but the opportunity is slipping away due to Governor Gavin Newsom’s new stay-at-home orders.“We have a really close community of workers here, and to see it shut down again is really sad,” Abby Pekary said.Pekary has been welcoming guests into Little Italy’s Nonna for more than two years. By Monday, she could be out of a job due to Newsom’s new orders.Pekary is a full-time student at San Diego State University, hostessing to save up to eventually move out of her parent’s house.Her latest obstacle from the state is Newsom’s regional shutdown order, limiting restaurants to takeout or delivery only. The order also forces bars and wineries to close amid COVID-19.“I had a couple people who during the first shutdown they actually moved back to Bay Area because they were living here and just because they were out of a job they had to live with their families,” Pekary added.Unlike the first shutdown in March of 2020, there is no federal stimulus to cushion the fall. Restaurants and employees are left to fend for themselves under the new order. “Of course we're still open for takeout, so if you want to do that, that's always an option for ya.”Restaurants say there likely aren’t enough takers to keep jobs, or at least hours, from being cut. 1364

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several business owners on University Avenue in Hillcrest say they were vandalized sometime late Tuesday night. The owners think the suspects shot at their windows with a type of pellet gun. At least three businesses had windows either shattered or broken. Benjamin Nicholls, with the Hillcrest Business Association says he feels these businesses were targeted because of the time of year. San Diego Pride is 9 days away. Samir Hannosh owns The Glass Door Cafe, which just opened a week ago. His window replacement could cost him anywhere from ,000-,000. He says he hopes the businesses weren't targeted for being in the LGBTQ neighborhood, adding that all business will be ready and proud for the upcoming Pride celebration.The San Diego Police Department says they are investigating and working to find the person or persons responsible.
