Gavin Newsom said Wednesday that a rise in coronavirus cases is worrying, and warned counties to heed statewide precautions and enforce them.He doubled down on his warning, saying if individual counties did not enforce the state's guidance, they can lose funding."We cannot support bad behaviors, but we want to encourage and support good behavior," Newsom said. "And if counties simply are going to (flout) the rules and regulations that they attested to, the information that they put online and said, `We agreed to this criteria.' ... If they decide, `well, you know what, even though the numbers are going up, we're done, we've got this, we're just going to ... dismiss these new rules and regulations' -- we're going to attach some considerations, some consequences to that. He said Wendesday that the most recent 14-day average of people testing positive for the virus in California overall is 5.1%, up from 4.6% earlier this month. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Homeowners in Logan Heights say people are living in RVs parked on their street, leaving behind trash and at times, even dumping human waste. The piles of trash on Logan Avenue include bags, clothes, and paint or plastic food containers. Some of the RV trailers even have cobwebs. A city ordinance says cars are not allowed to park continuously on any public roadway for more than 72 hours. Homeowners say the vehicles are sometimes ticketed and moved for a few days before they come back. In June, the city opened a safe parking lot in Misison Valley for people living out of their RVs. Neighbors say the issue has been reported to the city's Get It Done app multiple times and they've even reached out to their council member, Vivian Moreno.10News reached out to Moreno's office, and a spokesperson said they've reported the issue to the San Diego Police Department. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - From searching for jobs online to interviewing virtually, even working online, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way some people get and do their job."It definitely adds another element to do interviews online," said Alex McNair.McNair applied for her new job just as the pandemic hit.For everyone's safety, she and her prospective employer moved the interview from a traditional setting to a virtual one."Lytx was very forthcoming about health and safety and wanting to make sure everyone is taken care of," McNair said. "At that point, we transitioned online, and I think at that point it worked out really well for everyone."McNair got the job.She's a manager in customer support operations at Lytx, a fleet management solutions company. McNair now manages a team of people virtually."For me, of course, I want to see the office. I want to see where people sit, where they engage in a conference room, but for now working at a distance, I still get that culture and community," she said.McNair said she'll eventually transition back into the office, at some point, but not everyone will transition.Working remotely and communicating virtually will likely stick around for a while.At a recent San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) meeting, some business leaders signaled a willingness to adapt to a new standard - people working outside a traditional office."Remote working has been a great experiment, and there have been some incredible national studies," said Kevin Carroll, executive director of Tech San Diego, during a May SANDAG meeting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of people rallied outside of the County Administration Building Monday and called for the reopening of San Diego County businesses.The rally was held as new coronavirus-related restrictions took effect across the county over the weekend, forcing businesses and entities like restaurants, gyms, and churches to shutdown their indoor operations.“Some of us are in danger of losing our homes. We’re definitely in danger of losing our businesses. And we just had enough; enough is enough,” said Laura Crivello, a business owner that attended the rally.Many business owners also shared their personal stories and how the restrictions have crippled their businesses and livelihoods. They were joined by the County Supervisor Jim Desmond and the mayors of El Cajon and Coronado. All three expressed their support for business owners.“This is a very important moment for San Diego County and California. Rip currents are currents of water that flow out from shore, potentially pulling swimmers and surfers away from land, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. 63 people in California died in rip currents between 1999 and 2013, second only to Florida in fatalities. You can greatly increase your chances of survival by swimming at a beach with lifeguards, the USLA says. The odds of drowning while swimming at a USLA-affiliated lifeguard protected beach is 1 in 18 million, the group claims.Anyone in the water - or thinking about getting into the water - should look for a gap of seemingly calm water between areas of breaking waves, a difference in water color, or a line of foam or debris moving out to sea.
