SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The register sex offender accused of kidnapping and raping a three-year-old Oak Park girl pleaded not guilty to five felony counts Wednesday. Francisco "Freddy" Diaz now faces up to life in prison if convicted. Diaz is being held without bail. The young girl’s father, Silvester Soltero, says he was working on his car when his neighbor broke into a bedroom window, grabbing his sleeping daughter.Soltero says Diaz’ mother brought his daughter home, but she wasn’t wearing any pants. Soltero said when he asked his daughter what happened, she told him the man touched her private parts.RELATED: Man arrested after three-year-old says she was kidnapped and touchedWhen the father asked who the man was, Soltero said his daughter pointed to Diaz. When the father approached Diaz, Soltero said he became hostile, even threatening to kill him if he snitched.The two men then started fighting when Diaz reportedly tried to poke Soltero in the eye with a fork. After he ran off, San Diego Police caught Diaz a short distance away. After his arrest, Soltero learned his neighbor was a registered sex offender.“They should have told me, they should have told me I was living next to a pedophile, If I had known I wouldn’t have brought my daughter around here, there’s no way in hell," he said.Diaz was convicted in 2006 for molesting three girls on the playground near Oak Park Elementary School, right across the street from his mother’s house. Diaz was sentenced to eight years in prison, in part because he already had a criminal history. In 2000, Diaz was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and making a terrorist threat.San Diego Police say Diaz was in full compliance with the terms of Megan's Law. He is required to check in with police every year and he does so, said Lt. Jason Weeden.Because Diaz' child molestation convictions were misdemeanors, he doesn't have to steer clear of schools and playgrounds. Throughout the day, both Democrats and Republicans repeated the same points over and over again. Political analysts say that’s only expected to continue. “The president used the power of his public office to obtain an improper personal political benefit at the expense of America's national security,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi kicked off the debate, summing up the argument to impeach President Donald Trump. The promises to the base matter, and today is a promise kept for the majority,” Collins said. Very rarely did either party directly respond to each other. “You are not going to convince the person next to you. They are not your audience,” said Thad Kousser, UC San Diego Political Analyst. Kousser says the way this is set up is purely for show. Different representatives are trying to reach their constituents, who may not be watching live. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The woman killed after a loose dog on State Route 94 caused a chain-reaction crash has been identified.Grace Villar, 53, died Saturday after the Toyota Camry she was in was hit from behind by a Dodge pickup truck, according to a report by San Diego's Medical Examiner. Traffic in front of the Camry was stopped due to a loose dog in the highway.Villar was one of three people in the vehicle taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital following the crash.According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford F-150 owned by the San Diego Humane Society was parked in the median of the highway to wrangle a loose dog, when the dog ran into traffic.Cars were forced to stop and some swerved in the process, including the car Villar was traveling in. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The woman accused of killing another driver in a wrong-way crash while drunk on a San Diego freeway last year changed her plea Friday.Lauren Ashley Freeman pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury in the Feb. 26, 2018 collision that killed 35-year-old Justin Callahan.Freeman's plea dismisses a murder charge. She is scheduled to be sentenced to 11 years and 8 months in prison at a September hearing.RELATED: CHP reverses blame in fatal wrong-way crash on I-5 rampInitially, Callahan was deemed responsible for the crash. The position of his Volkswagen Jetta after the crash led CHP officers to believe he was at fault. But California Highway Patrol investigators reversed their findings after Callahan's family refuted the claim and the case was re-opened. Freeman was charged with causing the fatal crash in November.Callahan was driving to his Ocean Beach home from work in Chula Vista when the crash occurred on a transition ramp from northbound Interstate 5 and westbound I-8 just before 2 a.m.The 35-year-old died at the scene, while Freeman and a passenger in her Toyota Camry sustained major injuries. Investigators said Freeman had a blood alcohol content of .28 at the time of the crash. 1272
