SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A registered sex offender who broke into his next-door neighbor's home, where he raped and sodomized a 3-year-old girl, pleaded guilty today to four felony charges and is facing an 85-year prison term.Francisco Diaz, 47, entered his plea to four counts of forcible lewd acts on a child, and admitted serious prior felony convictions, according to Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso.Sentencing is scheduled for June 17.Last summer's attack occurred the morning of Aug. 11 in the 5200 block of Maple Street in Oak Park.RELATED: Man arrested after three-year-old says she was kidnapped and touchedDiaz broke a screen and curtain rod and climbed through a window of the sleeping child's bedroom. When the toddler woke up and cried while being sexually assaulted, Diaz carried her out through the window and was walking her toward his home when the defendant's mother saw them and wrapped the child -- who was naked from the waist down -- in a blanket.Police were called around 9:45 a.m. and Diaz was arrested.``It's a parent's worst nightmare,'' Grasso said following Diaz's arraignment last year. ``The violation, the betrayal, (it's just) horrific. I think that not only does it impact the victim but it impacts the entire family, who now have to look over their shoulder, who now cannot feel safe in their own home. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman died Monday after being injured Sunday when she was hit by a car in Rancho Penasquitos, police said.The San Diego County Medical Examiner says Nang Arm, 37, died after she was taken off life support Monday. Medics responded to a call at 7:07 a.m. Sunday on Black Mountain Road and Carmel Mountain Road, where they found an unconscious woman with face injuries, San Diego police Sgt. Robert Hawkins said.A gold-colored 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by 20-year-old Uvelyn Nunez- Jaramillo and carrying two passengers, was heading south on the 13700 block of Black Mountain Road when the car veered to the right, SDPD Sgt. Tim Underwood said.The car went onto a sidewalk, damaged a fence, then struck the Nang. She was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, Hawlins said.The car continued a short distance down the street, where it also hit a water line before it came to a stop. Nunez-Jaramillo exited the Nissan and walked away.Several passersby stopped at the scene to render aid to the woman and emergency personnel, Underwood said.Detectives determined that Nunez-Jaramillo caused the crash. She was contacted and returned to the scene, where police determined she allegedly was driving under the influence.She was arrested and booked in the Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility for felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run.Detectives also interviewed Nunez-Jaramillo's two passengers, who were released, Underwood said. 1468

Gavin Newsom reversed a parole board's decision to release a 59-year-old man who was a teenage gang member when he killed a San Diego police officer in 1978, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.Jesus Cecena was convicted of killing Officer Archie Buggs, 30, who was shot four times after he stopped a car driven by Cecena in the Skyline neighborhood.Cecena, then 17, fired five times at Buggs, then paused, walked toward the fallen officer and fired a final bullet into his head at point-blank range.Cecena, who is serving a life sentence, was granted parole in June, a decision that was heavily criticized by the San Diego County District Attorney's Office.Newsom reversed the parole board's decision on Monday, marking the second time he has reversed a parole grant for Cecena. Former Gov. Jerry Brown also reversed parole grants for Cecena in 2014, 2016 and 2017.Newsom cited Cecena's gang motivations as a major factor in his decision."Mr. Cecena still is unwilling to acknowledge the underlying or causative factors that are in evidence, specifically that he belonged to a gang where killing a peace officer was seen as an ultimate goal, that a more senior and respected gang member handed him a firearm so he could kill Officer Buggs, and that killing Officer Buggs was a way for Mr. Cecena to gain more respect and power within his gang," Newsom wrote. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- A prominent local civil rights leader called on the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Monday to fire a deputy who allegedly shared a "lewd and racist and vile" altered photograph of George Floyd taken from the viral video of the Minnesota man's death in police custody.The doctored image showed a nude male "porn star" kneeling on Floyd in place of Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin, who kept his knee on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes as the detainee repeatedly protested that he could not breathe, according to NAACP San Diego Branch President Francine Maxwell. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was stabbed in the hands and pistol whipped in North Park Saturday after refusing to carry drugs from Mexico into the United States, police said.The victim, 49, was pressured by six friends earlier in the day to transport drugs from Mexico across the border, but he refused, said Officer Tony Martinez of the San Diego Police Department.They saw him later at 3 a.m. Saturday in the 4000 block of 30th Street, Martinez said."They got into a confrontation with him, and during the confrontation the victim was stabbed in both hands and pistol whipped," the officer said.The victim received a laceration to both hands and a laceration to the top of the head from being pistol whipped, Martinez said.The main suspect was a man known to the victim, he said. The other suspects were three men and two women. They all fled in a white Kia SUV with Mexico plates.Mid City Division detectives will be handling the investigation. 950
