(KGTV) -A nonprofit group is stepping up to find a solution following complaints of people living out of their cars across neighborhoods in San Diego. In February, the City of San Diego unanimously voted to repeal a 1983 city ordinance preventing people from living out of their vehicles. The change cleared the way for vehicle dwellers to live on any street within San Diego. A newly-formed resident coalition is documenting what it says are the problems the ordinance created. The information is being sent to San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s office. “We have literally witnessed buckets of waste being thrown out of some of these vehicles. I’ve witnessed drug dealing out of some of the motor homes, we’ve seen bike chop shops operating,” Pacific Beach resident Racheal Allen said. Some people had already began using the parking lot as a camping site, but some residents expressed discontent with that solution. The issue is a concern well beyond San Diego’s city limits. A nonprofit group, Jewish Family Services, is now working on a proposal that could potentially turn a privately-owned church parking lot in San Marcos into a designated space for these campers. RELATED: More San Diego residents with children are living in cars because of housing crisis, group saysA San Marcos resident said he’s not opposed to the idea, but he would need to know more about the specifics before taking up a stance on the issue. “How is it going to work, how are they going to control who comes and goes, how are they going to manage the security, the safety, and the health, I think first and foremost, and then what are they going to do if it somehow starts negatively impacting the community,” said Ruben Galvan. Jewish Family Services officials said the group is in the exploration phase of the proposal and is reviewing different sites as options. Not when it comes to gear, but when it comes to safety.Don't go aloneDon't surf alone. If you're new to the sport, you definitely don't want to surf alone. Attending a surf school or lesson can help with that. If you've been surfing, it's still always better to surf with a buddy.Warm upStretching out helps prevent injuries. If you're new to surfing, you'll definitely be using some muscles you haven't used before so limber up!Space outBetween your foot and your board's leash, there's plenty of room for your board to get in someone's way and vice-versa. Make sure you have enough room between yourself once you go for a wave. That last thing you want before wiping out is to send your board into someone or catch someone else's board yourself.Don't ruin a waveBefore you paddle out, check the situation. There may be someone hurdling toward you and about to catch a wave. Point being, get your bearings on where others are currently. Paddle out between breaks and you'll be less likely to run into someone.Don't drop inIf you're not paying attention, you may end up on the same wave as another surfer. This can lead to two things, a collision or having to bail out of the wave. Either way, it's bad news. Apologize if you accidentally end up in the situation, but be aware of your surroundings.Spotting a ripRip currents can be a real danger whether you're swimming or surfing. Know how to spot a rip current and where you're allowed to surf, and make sure you're within view of a lifeguard. If you're caught in a rip current, experts say it's important to stay calm. Float, wave your arms and yell to get the attention of a lifeguard or people on shore. 1895

(KGTV) -- The woman accused of hitting a pedestrian in Oceanside and continuing to drive after his body went through the windshield of her vehicle was found guilty Friday afternoon.A jury Friday found 31-year-old Esteysi “Stacy” Sanchez guilty of murder in the second degree, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and hit and run with death or permanent serious injury.Deputy District Attorney Robert Bruce told the jury that Sanchez displayed a conscious disregard for human life when she drove drunk and ran over 69-year-old Jack Ray Tenhulzen on a sidewalk on Mission Road near the state Route 76 bridge the morning of June 27, 2016.Tenhulzen’s body went through the windshield and into the passenger seat of her car.  The bottom of the victim's leg was severed in the accident but was recovered at the back of the car near the rear window.Tenhulzen was declared dead at the scene.Defense attorney Herb Weston argued that Sanchez was tired and fell asleep behind the wheel and rode up on the sidewalk, striking Tenhulzen. He said Sanchez "freaked out" when she saw the victim's body in her car and kept driving, finally stopping a block from her home.Sanchez was eventually arrested at her home, and she had shards of glass in her hair when taken into custody. Authorities said her blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit about two hours after the collision.Sanchez faces up to 15 years to life in prison. It's okay. Here are the basics: It's a paddle-based sport that combines tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. "The USAPA has built up a nationwide network of 1,700 dedicated ‘Pickleball Ambassadors,’ and designating April as National Pickleball Month will help them to further get the word out about all the great benefits pickleball can provide not just to individuals of all ages, but also to communities."The "national month" designation hopes to boost more interest in the sport.
