LOS ANGELES (AP) — Gabrielle Union and NBC say they have settled their differences in their dispute over her firing from "America's Got Talent." Union had said publicly and in a complaint to the California labor board that she was taken off the show because of her complaints that the environment on the set tolerated racism. Union and the network issued a joint statement Tuesday saying that they have reached an "amicable resolution." The statement says NBC appreciates Union's "important concerns" and "remains committed to ensuring an inclusive and supportive working environment where people of all backgrounds are treated with respect." Neither side gave details of the resolution. 695

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Hawthorne-based SpaceX launched a NASA ocean-monitoring satellite into orbit today from Vandenberg Air Force Base in central California. Residents in parts of Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties could hear a series of sonic booms following liftoff of the Falcon 9 rocket. Farther south in Los Angeles County, residents might have caught a glimpse of the rocket's smoky trail as it powered the satellite into orbit, then reversed course and returned to Vandenberg for recovery and use in future missions. The launch was scheduled for 9:17 a.m., and SpaceX tweeted a video showing the successful liftoff at 9:19 a.m.At 9:28 a.m., the company tweeted that ``Falcon 9's first stage has landed on Landing Zone 4,'' and deployment of Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich was confirmed at 10:18 a.m.The rocket carries NASA's Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite, which will join a nearly 30-year project to measure global sea-surface height, while also providing atmospheric data that officials say will improve weather forecasts, climate modeling and hurricane tracking. Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich will be joined in the mission in 2025 by a twin satellite dubbed Sentinel-6B.The satellite launched Saturday is named after Freilich, NASA's former Earth Science Division director.Three science instruments aboard the satellite were built by Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena -- the Advanced Microwave Radiometer, the Global Navigation Satellite System-Radio Occultation and the Laser Retroreflector Array. The ocean-monitoring program was developed by the European Space Agency in conjunction with NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. 1690

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – During her first show of her 18th season, Ellen DeGeneres addressed the toxic workplace allegations made over the summer and apologized to those affected.“As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation,” said the talk show host in a clip released Monday morning. “I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.”DeGeneres said she knows she’s in a position of privilege and power and realizes that it comes with responsibility.“I take responsibility for what happens at my show,” she said. “This is the ‘Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ I am Ellen DeGeneres, my name is there, my name is there, my name is on underwear.”DeGeneres said the people at the show have had a lot of conversations over the past few weeks about the workplace and what they want for the future.“We have made the necessary changes, and today, we are starting a new chapter,” said DeGeneres without saying what the changes would be.This was the first time DeGeneres addressed her viewers publicly since BuzzFeed and other news outlets reported about the dozens of current and former employees who said executive producers engaged in sexual misconduct and harassment at the show. Other workers detailed accounts of racism, fear and intimidation, BuzzFeed reports.Three executive producers of the show have been fired since the allegations were revealed. At the end of her opening monologue, DeGeneres announced that Stephen “tWitch” Boss won’t be her DJ any longer. Instead, he’ll act as co-executive producer, because DeGeneres says he’s “such an important part of this show.”DeGeneres also addressed reports that she’s not who she appears to be on television. She says she became known as the “be kind” lady, because that’s how she ends her shows. But that put her in a tricky spot, because people are complex.“I am also a lot of other things,” she said. “Sometimes I get sad, I get mad, I get anxious, I get frustrated, I get impatient. And I am working on all of that. I am a work in progress, and I'm especially working on the impatience thing because, and it's not going well, because it's not happening fast enough, I will tell you that.”Watch the monologue below: 2361

LIVE OAK SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV)- Some residents in the Live Oaks Springs, Boulevard and Jacumba neighborhoods woke up with power. Others in East County haven't been so lucky. Residents without power say the outages happen every year, and they're frustrated. A local store owner in Live Oak Springs says he works hard all year to keep his store running, but the recent power outage will cost him almost a year's worth of earnings. "I lose business, I lose customers, now I lose all my stuff," says Sam Matthe. Matthe has been running the Live Oak Springs Market for four years. He says he's had power outages for the past two years, with some going on for days. Inside the store sits a large deli counter, freezers full of dairy items, produce, and a walk-in meat freezer in the back. Matthe says it's frustrating because he is on a different SDG&E circuit than others in the area. Just a mile north and south, those neighbors have power. "I don't know why. What's the difference?" says Matthe. "(It's) not too windy. They say its the wind, it's not; the wind it's normal."Matthe estimates he will lose more than ,000. SDG&E says some customers will have their lights turned back on this evening. 1215
