Democrat Stacey Abrams on Friday acknowledged that Republican Brian Kemp will become the next governor of Georgia, ending her bid to become the first black woman in American history to lead a state.The announcement comes after more than a week of post-election legal maneuvering from her campaign and allies as they sought to find enough votes to reduce Kemp's lead and force a December 4 runoff.Abrams was considering further legal challenges as recently as this morning, but ultimately made the decision to end her campaign in a fiery speech to supporters at her headquarters in Atlanta.Even in acknowledging defeat, Abrams insisted her speech was not a speech of concession."So let's be clear -- this is not a speech of concession, because concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true or proper," she said. "As a woman of conscience and faith, I cannot concede that. But, my assessment is the law currently allows no further viable remedy. Now, I can certainly bring a new case to keep this one contest alive, but I don't want to hold public office if I need to scheme my way into the post. Because the title of governor isn't nearly as important as our shared title -- voters. And that is why we fight on."Abrams had previously described Kemp as an "architect of voter suppression" and in her remarks said he had purposefully made the process a "gut-wrenching hardship" for many in Georgia."Under the watch of the now former secretary of state, democracy failed Georgia," Abrams said of Kemp, who served as the state's chief elections officer for nearly a decade before resigning after overseeing his own contest."Make no mistake, the former secretary of state was deliberate and intentional in his actions," Abrams said. DENVER (KMGH) -- You could call it the very definition of the old expression of being in "the right place at the right time" when several emergency room doctors saved a man's life at a Denver sandwich shop.The doctors happened to be in town for a conference of ER doctors. They were on a lunch break Monday afternoon at Snarf's on Champa when the man walked in and collapsed."He went into cardiac arrest. His heart stopped beating, stopped pumping blood," said Dr. David Levy. Levy was alongside several of his former residents and a pair of emergency physicians from New Jersey, who all jumped into action."We did chest compressions. We shocked him with the [defibrillator]," he explained.The man was without a pulse three separate times, but the team was able to revive it in time for medics to arrive and transport him to the hospital."Everyone expects this to happen in a hospital in a controlled environment, but when you’re there, and it happens on the floor of a restaurant it takes you by surprise," Levy said. "He would have died if no one was there to intervene."As of Monday night, the man had survived the ordeal and was being treated in the intensive care unit.And what did this group of hero doctors do next?"We washed our hands, sat down, and finished our lunch," Levy said.Levy would go on to win three separate awards that night as part of the convention, the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians. 1478

Dennis Hof, a Nevada brothel owner and reality TV star who died last month, won an election for Nevada's 36th Assembly District Tuesday night, the Nevada Secretary of State's office said.Hof, who ran as a Republican, defeated Democratic challenger Lesia Romanov by more than 7,000 votes, the office said.Nevada's 36th Assembly District sits in the southern portion of the state, and includes portions of Nye, Lincoln and of Clark counties. According to state law, county officials will now appoint a fellow Republican who also resides in the district to take Hof's seat.Hof, a self-proclaimed pimp, was found dead October 16 after celebrating his 72nd birthday at one of his ranches.
