SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new program in San Diego will offer people as much as ,000 to trade in their gas-powered cars for an electric vehicle.In October, the County Board of Supervisors approved the Clean Cars 4 All program. Starting in 2020, the County will get million per year to help low-income families go electric."The problem with electric vehicles is the upfront cost of purchase," says County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. A 14-gallon car that gets filled up four times per month would cost around ,400 per year. That money could now go back into a family's budget. The same goes for oil changes and many types of car maintenance."When you talk about not having to change oil and not having to maintain and internal combustion engine, you take a big part out of it," says Cole Lowenfield, the General Manager of Mossy Ford in Pacific Beach.In addition to the Clean Cars 4 All program, there are 26 other state and federal grants and tax incentives available to people who want to go electric. Lowenfield says he knows of about 150 different kinds of makes and models scheduled to come out in the next 15 years, meaning there's something for everyone.RELATED: Making it in San Diego: Giving up car helps lead to luxury rental"It's going to make every car affordable enough to where you choice is electric or gas, not high or low payment," he says.There's also an environmental aspect to the program, as it targets people in some of the most highly polluted areas of the county."A child in Barrio Logan is more likely to have asthma than a child in La Jolla," says Fletcher. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Navy wife battling cancer is looking forward to a good night's sleep, thanks to the help of United Service Organizations (USO) and Jerome's Furniture.Julie Chadek was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer last year and it has since spread to her spine.“I’ve been home from the hospital for a couple of nights now and have been sleeping on the couch because I was so uncomfortable in our old bed," said Chadek.USO teamed up with Jerome's to get the Chadek's their dream bed."I cried for a while, because you just, you don't see that very often," said Julie. "Knowing that there is still some good is quite amazing."The nearly ,000 bed features an adjustable mattress and therapeutic massage.Julie's doctors have created a new plan of action to target the cancer now in her spine.“There’s still a few more options, we’re not giving up, we’re fighting until there’s no more fight left," said Julie. 930

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A medical helicopter transporting a heart from Grossmont Hospital for transplant crashed on the helipad of a Los Angeles-area hospital on Friday.The AgustaWestland A109 medical helicopter flipped onto its side after experiencing a hard landing on the roof of Keck Hospital of USC at about 3:15 p.m., according to a statement from the hospital. Three people on board, the pilot and two medical personnel, escaped without major injuries. Nobody on the ground or in the hospital was injured, the hospital and FAA said. Patient care at the hospital was not interrupted.The helicopter was carrying a heart from Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, according to helicopter service provider Helinet. The hospital said in a statement that the organ was safely delivered to the intended patient in time for surgery.“We are fully cooperating with the NTSB and FAA on their investigations,” said Helinet COO and President Sean M. Cross. “Our company prides itself on professional operation and maintenance of aircraft as core values - the safety of our customers and pilots is always our top priority. We are happy that at this time there appear to have been no serious injuries.”The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.Helinet says it completed more than 1,300 helicopter air ambulance missions in 2019. Company officials are also on-site assisting in the investigation. 1424
