On Thursday, investigators revealed that they believe he got his rifle from a licensed dealer.In federal documents released on Thursday, prosecutors report, “The firearm was manufactured by Smith & Wesson in Princeton, Illinois and shipped to Springfield, Massachusetts where it was assembled. The firearm was ultimately transferred, via Fort Worth, Texas, to a Federal Firearm Licensed (FFL) Dealer in San Diego, California, which sold the firearm to Earnest. Earnest picked up the rifle on April 26, 2019.”That was the day before the shooting.In a press conference on Thursday, Southern District of California U.S. Attorney Shane Harrigan told reporters, “I can say that there is no allegation that the defendant violated federal law when he acquired the rifle that he used in the violent attack on the synagogue.”Questions still remain as to whether state law was violated. Earnest is only 19 years-old.California law requires that adults be over 21 years-old before they can buy a firearm, unless they have a hunting license, are current or former military, or are in law enforcement.Prosecutors wouldn't comment on whether Earnest had a hunting license. “That allegation isn't in the complaint but please understand that as the criminal process moves forward, more information may be available to the public,” added Harrigan.District Attorney Summer Stephan originally said that the rifle had been obtained legally, but when pressed on Wednesday by 10News, she didn't provide a clear answer. “I don't want to [comment any further] because it's a pending case,” she said.At Thursday’s press conference, a reporter asked the federal prosecution about when Earnest purchased his 60 rounds of ammunition. They design their products in Carlsbad, but production happens overseas, mainly in China.The country shut down for Chinese New Year and with the outbreak of Coronavirus, everyone stayed in quarantine."We were at about 10 percent capacity 10 days ago, we're up to 20 percent capacity today and we expect to be up to 50 percent capacity by mid-March," CEO of JLab Win Cramer said factories were shut down for about two months.That translated to delayed deliveries, "some products were delayed by two to three months, some products were delayed by 15-20 days," Cramer said.Cramer said Spring is a critical season for production, "this is when retailers turn over the wares that they sell in favor of the new fashion, the new technology."Adding to the stress, the company has been hit for the past year and a half with tariffs from Chinese goods."We paid -M in tariff fees to the government this year," Cramer said.That led to cuts across the company, chopping everything they could without sacrificing their team or raising the price of their products.Cramer said they even looked at little things around the office, "we had to renegotiate with our coffee supplier, say, 'hey, can you help us through tariffs? Can you bring your costs down so we can still use your service?' SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A brush fire in the Japatul Valley area exploded in size in about an hour on Saturday, forcing nearby residents to evacuate.The Valley Fire ignited off Spirit Trail and Japatul Road, just southeast of Alpine, just before 2:50 p.m., according to Cleveland National Forest. The fire had scorched about 1,500 acres and was 0% contained as of 5:50 p.m.Fire officials said the dangerous rate of spread was pushing the fire southwest toward Lawson Valley. According to Cal Fire Cpt. Kendal Bortisser says the intense heat and rugged topography of the area are also posing a challenge for crews. The agency said smoke from the Valley Fire was impacting several parts of the county, particularly in the north. If anyone smells smoke, it's advised that they limit their activity outdoors."Much of the smoke is high above ground level and can be seen throughout the northern half of San Diego County, but is not necessarily affecting people on the ground. However, in areas impacted by the smoke, fine particulates, or PM2.5 concentrations, may reach unhealthful levels," the agency said.Power outages were expected in the area surrounding the fire. SDG&E said about 1,000 customers were without power as a result of the fire, as of 5:15 p.m. SDG&E had incorrectly reported that about 12,700 customers were without power earlier."The fire is impacting SDG&E equipment in the vicinity of the fire. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A boy found wandering in the parking lot of a Rolando church Monday was reunited with his mother.The pastor of the Fellowship of Love Divine church found the boy around 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot on Aragon Dr., near the Kroc Center.San Diego Police got a call about 30 minutes later from a mother reporting her child missing from a home about a block away."He was clean. Had on a pair of Pampers, and a pair of socks. And he stuffed had a toy car and he seemed to be really happy, you know," said Pastor James Dawson.The boy was returned to his mother at their apartment nearby.
