BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's new rules on foreign media reflected the country's determination to carry on the policy of opening up to the outside world, a senior information official said here Saturday, hours after the issuing of the new rules.     Wang Chen said this in a ceremony for the establishment of "Israel Epstein Research Center" of Qinghua University.     Wang pointed out that the new rules draw on the experience of providing service and managerial assistance for foreign correspondents during Beijing Olympics, and they will make foreign correspondents reporting activities in China more convenient.     "Chinese government welcomes foreign media and reporters, and we hope more stories about the country will be told to the world. We will spare no effort to provide help and service to them," he said," meanwhile, we hope foreign media and reporters could abide by Chinese laws and professional morals, to report unbiasedly and justly, so to promote understanding and cooperation between China and the rest of the world."     According to the new rules, foreign reporters wishing to interview organizations or individuals in China no longer need to be received and accompanied by the Chinese organizations.     An item in the old version was also cancelled, which asked foreign reporters to get approval from the local government's foreign affairs department when they wanted to do reporting in the regions open to them.     Seymour Topping, a famous journalist from the United States and the former administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes, told Xinhua that the removal of the restrictions on foreign correspondents may mark an important progress of China,     China should learn to tolerate the judgement of the outside world, be it positive or negative. That will show a more confident China, he said.     Huang Youyi, deputy director-general and editor-in-chief of China International Publishing Group, said:" Sadly some foreign media reported inaccurately about China. But I believe with more foreign reporters coming, the proportion of accurate reports will increase."     "How great it is!" Wang Yu, who lives in Haidian District of Beijing smiled when she heard about the new rules," the foreign reporters will see that the world is a family, and Chinese people do have speech freedom."     A backpacker named Wang Shaofei from Hainan Province in the south of China said:" if any foreign reporters come to me, I will tell them the new development and changes of my hometown. BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Attracted by the real estate plunge on the other side of the globe, Chinese homebuyers are gearing up for visits to the United States in February to buy cheap homes, the English language newspaper China Daily reported in its weekend issue.     A pioneering house-buying team of 20 to 30 people, organized by Soufun.com, one of the largest real estate portals in China, is scheduled to leave for the United States on Feb. 12, according to an article on Soufun.com.     It is said more than 300 Chinese have registered so far on the website for a 10-day house-buying trip.     The U.S. mortgage crisis and the downturn in the global economy have presented people with a golden opportunity, said Liu Jian, an official of the Beijing-based real estate portal.     The trip, which costs up to 25,000 yuan (3,500 U.S. dollars) per person, will focus on cities with huge ethnic Chinese populations including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York, Liu said.     The prices of houses targeted by Chinese buyers are between 3 million to 5 million yuan (400,000 to 700,000 U.S. dollars), he said.     The applicants include real estate professionals who want to investigate in the U.S. real estate market, and parents who want to buy houses for their children studying or to study in the United States.

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said the country's trade unions should play an active role in promoting coordinated labor relations on Tuesday.     Addressing a symposium attended by the newly-elected leaders of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) and representatives of the 15th national congress of the ACFTU, Hu said trade unions should listen to the employees and voice their opinions.     He called on trade unions to earnestly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of employees and coordinate labor relations to promote social stability.     He added that trade unions need reform and should explore new solutions to deal with problems. BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top legislator, Wu Bangguo, met here Wednesday with visiting speaker of the Slovak National Council, Pavol Paska, calling on the two sides to step up inter-parliamentary cooperation to further boost bilateral relations.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, highlighted China-Slovakia relations, noting that the ties already entered into a phase of development.     Citing Slovakia as one of the fastest growing member states in the European Union (EU) and China as the biggest developing country in the world, Wu said that the two share a solid foundation for further cooperation.
