(KGTV) - Surveillance video obtained by ABC 10News shows a gas thief in action in Santee.Just before 3 a.m. last Wednesday, at a business park off North Woodside Avenue, the video revealed a masked man up to no good."Just sad seeing someone doing that," said Kevin Wilson.The owner of the vans shown in the video is Kevin Wilson, co-owner of carpet cleaning and repair company, Southwestern Carpet Works. Hours later, he arrived and smelled the aftermath."Pulled up to work and I could immediately smell gas," said Wilson.When he looked at the gas gauge of his box van, his heart sank."Instantly could tell there was less than a quarter tank, and there was a full tank the day before," said Wilson.Here's why. In the video, a man is seen carrying a water jug and some tubing. The man shoves the tube into the gas tank, before puts the tube to his mouth and siphoning the gas.He would get away with about 20 gallons of fuel."Angry and disappointed. He is stealing from a small, family business. If you steal from us, you’re stealing from our kids and our employees' kids," said Wilson.Like most small businesses, his was impacted by COVID-19"For the first month-and-a-half to two months, it was really slow," said Wilson.Fast forward to the end of summer. Wilson believes the gas thief in the video is the same one that hit his business two others times in the past few months."In times past, a little more cautious. He had his back to camera, but dressed in similar clothes and shoes," said Wilson.Wilson says other businesses in the area have also been targeted in the same time period. SAN MIGUEL COUNTY, Colo. -- A husband and wife from Florida were killed in a small plane crash Monday in Colorado, just days after their wedding.According to the San Miguel County Sheriff's Office in Colorado, the victims in the crash were identified as Costas John Sivyllis, 30, and his wife of four days, Lindsey Vogelaar, 33, both of Port Orange, Florida.Deputies said the couple was leaving Colorado to return to Florida in a privately owned Beechcraft Bonanza when it crashed in the Ingram Basin east of Telluride, where they were married Oct. 1.Sivyllis, a United Airlines pilot and flight instructor, and Vogelaar, who also worked in the airline industry, were the only people on board. 701

(CNS) -- Orange County Jail inmates suing the county for a variety of issues related to their housing filed a motion Thursday demanding an improvement in their meals, a resumption of visits and access to religious services, all of which have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.Orange County Jail inmates recently conducted a short-lived hunger strike as they demanded a resumption of hot meals, which were restored for a short time at some jails."Presently, most prisoners except those in Theo Lacy, get soybean mystery meat (baloney) sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner," the motion reads."This food is inedible and must be supplemented with snacks from the commissary. Those who cannot afford snacks go hungry."A GoFundMe campaign is raising money for inmates to buy snacks from the commissary, according to the motion.The litigation also alleges that inmates are receiving the wrong Jewish diets, including sandwiches during Passover when they are not allowed to eat bread.Visits from family have been suspended since March and the inmates demand that something to be done to provide some sort of visits that could be done under the state's social distancing guidelines.The litigation also complains of a restriction on religious visits or services.Inmate Kendall Cole, who has been in custody since 2016, said in a declaration said he used to receive Kosher meals, "but I am now served 'Halal' meals. That is a different religious diet. I am Jewish and need Kosher meals."Cole said he recently testified that jail guards gave him a weapon and was instructed to attack Joshua Waring, the son of a former "Real Housewives of Orange County" cast member, who recently was released from jail following a plea deal for attempted murder.Cole said he was sentenced to 15 days "in the hole" in connection with the attack and that legal materials he received through the law library were "confiscated" along with his "religious head covering (Kippah) and my Jewish calendar."Cole said he was "housed with Joshua Waring when the guards shot a pepper ball into our room. This caused choking and tearing to the dozen or so prisoners even though we were in our housing units. The guards threatened us and told us not to say anything to the investigators. We did not say anything because we feared these threats. We all know of the subsequent attacks on Joshua Waring."Waring is a plaintiff in the litigation.The Orange County Sheriff's Department issued this statement regarding the allegations:"Since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, the sheriff's department has worked closely with the Board of State and Community Corrections and the Orange County Health Care Agency to meet all health and safety guidelines for inmates and staff, as required by law. SELMA, Ala. (AP) — Bruce Carver Boynton, a civil rights pioneer who inspired the “Freedom Rides," has died at the age of 83.Former Alabama state Sen. Hank Sanders confirmed Boynton's passing Tuesday.Boynton was arrested 60 years ago for entering the white part of a racially segregated bus station in Virginia.That action began a chain reaction of events that ultimately helped to bring about the abolition of Jim Crow laws in the South.Boynton contested his conviction, and his appeal resulted in a Supreme Court decision that prohibited bus station segregation and helped inspire the landmark “Freedom Rides” of 1961. 627
