Who will be drafted first overall in Wednesday's NBA Draft? There isn't a consensus No. 1 pick this year because the coronavirus pandemic upended March Madness. Hence, college basketball players could not make any impression or allow NBA teams to evaluate players. The draft typically occurs in June, but the league changed it multiple times before officials decided to do it virtually due to the pandemic.Commissioner Adam Silver, along with Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, will announce the selections live at ESPN's headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut.ESPN will have live cameras set to look into 17 team draft rooms, USA Today reported. The first overall pick belongs to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and it's projected that they'll take LaMelo Ball. WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — West Palm Beach says the number of police cars that had to be pulled off the streets due to engine failure has risen to 49.City Administrator Jeff Green said at this point they believe a tainted fuel shipment in the middle of March is to blame. All of those cars had traces of biodiesel in their tanks, which are meant for unleaded only.West Palm Beach Police Public Information Officer David Lefont said it is not impacting public safety since the agency is supplementing with rental cars.“We have captains driving around in minivans,” Lefont said.Seventeen patrol cars have gotten new engines and are back in service. The other affected cars are non-marked cars.Green said Miami-Dade County police reported they had to pull 120 cars with the same issue. In West Palm Beach the cars affected are all Ford, which is why the automaker is investigating the case as well. But Green said at this point they believe it was the fuel shipment. They’re currently investigating where the shipment came from. 1035

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Last Friday was a day for the history books at the Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue Station 65.For the first time, it was staffed by a shift consisting of all women."Station 65 on that day, from the top down, captain, driver, firefighter, the rescue lieutenant, the paramedic, every single person was female that day on that shift," Deputy Chief James Ippolito said. The proof is in the picture, which featured Fire Medic Kelsey Krzywada side by side with her female colleagues. She is the youngest woman in the photo, whose ages range from 20 to 50. She said it didn't take her long to find her calling"I was always interested in the medical field so medical field and something super active to help people it seemed like a perfect fit," Krzywada said. She admits that in a male-dominated field, the road wasn't easy."Fire school was definitely really hard. I'm always the smallest one, smallest height, smallest weight. It's hard to keep up with the boys. I trained as hard as I could," Krzywada said.Lucky for her, there were other women before her, like Rescue Lt. Krystyna Krakowski, to help pave the way.Krakowski understood the impact of an all-female crew, even if for one shift. WPTV Palm Beach Gardens Fire Medic Kelsey Krzywada hopes the all-female fire crew will inspire other women to become first responders. "We just thought women empowerment, girl power, how fun to have five women at the same station. It was a great day," Krakowski said. However, it was also a sad day after the death of a gender equality icon."It also happened on a day that Justice Ginsburg passed away as well," Ippolito said.As Ginsburg famously said, "Fight for the things that you care about. But do it in a way that will lead others to join you."According to Krakowski, it's already working for people like her daughter: a college student and a member of the Palm Beach Ocean Rescue."Women can do the same thing men can do," said Krakowski. "You know, we're capable of anything."And now, there are scores of other women and young girls to carry on the legacy of equality."As the years go on, and it becomes more prevalent, more girls are gonna see us and be motivated to go to fire school and EMT school and continue on through the EMS field," Krzywada said.Ippolito said Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue currently has 12 female employees with room for plenty more. This story was first reported by Chris Gilmore at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida. 2507
Why is a guitar-slinging young cowboy all over the internet Tuesday? He’s singing about reducing methane, not normally a topic for country western music. It’s an ad touting new research and new burgers from Burger King.Livestock is responsible for about 14.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Those emissions are in the form of burps and farts as cows and other animals digest their food.Burger King partnered with scientists in the U.S. and Mexico to test different remedies humans have used for centuries to calm tummies, including chamomile, baking soda, and lemongrass. What they found is adding lemongrass can reduce that animal’s methane emissions by a third. Roughly 100 grams (about half a cup) of dried leaves is added to the cows’ daily feed. The research was done in partnership with U.C. Davis in Northern California and Autonomous University of the State of Mexico in Toluca, Mexico. The findings are being made available to everyone, and Burger King is pledging to continue to work with scientists as part of their beef sustainability strategy.Starting Tuesday, select Burger King locations in Miami, New York, Austin, Portland and Los Angeles will offer the Reduced Methane Emissions Beef Whopper sandwich, made with beef from cows eating the lemongrass diet. 1290
While civil rights lawyers said Zachary Cruz was subjected to torture in the Broward County Jail back in March, the father of a teenager shot and killed at Stoneman Douglas High School said he's faced his own kind of torture because of Zachary Cruz's brother.FULL COVERAGE: Parkland school shooting | Zachary Cruz arrested near Park Vista HS"I've got no sympathy for anyone with that last name," said Andrew Pollack, whose daughter Meadow was killed in February.Nexus Services filed a federal lawsuit for Zachary Cruz against the Broward County Sheriff's Office, a judge and prosecutors."You can’t treat and trample somebody’s constitutional rights because they’re related to an individual who did a heinous act," said Mario Williams, civil rights chief of Nexus Derechos Humanos. They claim because he's related to accused school shooter Nikolas Cruz, Zachary Cruz was tortured in the Broward County Jail with 24-hour lighting, constant one-on-one watch with intimidation and harassment and forced to wear a heavy restraint vest."Records show Mr. Cruz had extreme sleep deprivation over the course of four or five days," said Dallas LaPierre, an attorney for Nexus Derechos Humanos. That went on after a judge ordered a 0,000 bond for what’s typically a trespassing charge."If he was related not to his brother then he would’ve been released immediately," Williams said. The group said that excessive bond and torture is based on bias and is all unconstitutional."We’re all better off when constitutional rights are protected," said Mike Donovan, president and CEO of Nexus Services Inc.They also said those unfair practices basically forced Cruz to accept a plea deal for trespassing, which included extraordinary requirements as part of his probation. Part of that deal landed him back in jail this week for driving without a license and being too close to a school."Just listen to the judge and do what you have to do to stay out of prison," Pollack said. "Stay away from schools."Pollack said his main concern right now is making schools safer, and having Zachary Cruz close to schools makes people understandably nervous."Look at the damage that’s been done in the community," he said.Prosecutors dropped the school proximity portion of Cruz's probation violation during a hearing Thursday because he was driving past a Lake Worth high school, not actually on the school's campus.Cruz's lawyer said Broward County Sheriff's Office deputies came into Palm Beach County to follow Cruz after his caretaker reported to them he was driving without a license. They saw him driving near Park Vista Community High School, went back to Broward County to get arrest affidavits and then contacted Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office to arrest Cruz. 2804
