SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It may sound like a scene out of "Jurassic Park," but you'll soon be able to check out more than 70 life-like dinosaurs from your car at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.Jurassic Quest Drive-Thru is bringing back the popular event with a twist, introducing visitors to a drive-thru display of animatronic dinos at the fairgrounds from Jan. 1 to 10 next year.From their vehicles, guests will experience the massive models — from a Tyrannosaurus rex to Triceratops to 50-foot Megalodon — roaring and moving in realistic displays as they drive through the tour. An audio tour guide will lead guests through the hour-long tour.Organizers say attendees will have limited contact, if any, with staff on-site, and that state and local coronavirus precautions will be taken.Tickets start at per vehicle, with the option for "dinosaur surprise" add-ons. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It was an unforgettable Christmas surprise for 30 Tierrasanta elementary school students Friday.Officers from the San Diego Unified Police Department presented them with brand new bicycles.Most of the students from Hancock Elementary are part of military families and have a parent deployed this holiday season. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- If you have ever visited Lake Miramar, you know it is home to Chinese geese. But one goose, in particular, is healing both man and fellow beast. Louie is hard to miss He's the only white Chinese goose left at the lake and he's a bit of a celebrity.Dave Brandenburgh works at the concession and bait store at the lake and feeds the geese every day."Best part of my day is feeding the kids ... they always want food, but Louie is the one you have to watch out for, one minute he will be eating out of your hand and the next minute he will take my leg off!" Brandenburgh says.Nearly 100 visitors a day want to know where the cranky, white goose named Louie is located. But he has a soft spot for a little abandoned duck, named Alphie."This new little person thinks he's a goose, his bottom feathers haven't developed yet. Louie has taken him under his wing and adopted him," said Brandenburgh.But Louie's true love is a woman named "Mother Goose.""He just loves her and she's the goose whisperer," said Brandenburgh.Louie is known to attack but when he sees Mindy Dreiserd he turns to mush. She has visited him every day for 4 years. He's never tried to bite her. She can hug and even pick him up. When he had a respiratory infection, she nursed him back to health. And when she struggled with alcoholism and depression he was there for her."He's been the reason I've been sober ... that connection and desire ... he makes me happy when I question why sober anyway," Dreiserd said.With Lake Miramar garnering increased attention, the City of San Diego is reminding visitors to not feed the animals.In a statement, the city said: "For the safety of the public, it is against the rules for anyone to feed ducks, geese or any other wild animals at City of San Diego reservoirs." 1800

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Isabel Rosales was brutally attacked and nearly killed by her husband in January 2018."It was life or death, my ex husband attacked me in front of my kids," said Rosales.Rosales was married for 16 years. She and her ex-husband moved from Chicago to San Diego for a fresh start. But Rosales says the abuse only got worse."Sexual abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse, everything," said RosalesShortly after their 16-year anniversary Rosales told her Ex-husband she wanted a divorce. She barely made it out of the family home alive."I was getting ready to go to work and we had been arguing...his behavior had been kind of erratic over the last few weeks. I thought he was agreeing with me when he said it ends here. I thought he was getting his suitcase and leaving. He followed me into the bathroom and he stabbed me. I ran into the kid's room and he stabbed me in front of the kids who were sleeping. I was able to push him out of the way and I ran out of the house. Before I ran out of the house though he attacked me again at the front door. I knew if I didn't make it out of the door it was over and by the grace of God the door opened."Rosales was in the ICU at UCSD for three days with a breathing tube. She says she fought to stay alive for her three children and her mother, who was killed by her boyfriend in 2011."My mother was murdered by her boyfriend in Mexico. And my ex-husband attacked me in a very similar way."Rosales says she had what her mother did not. Help. Hers came in the form of Operation for Hope, a San Diego non-profit that helps provide emergency services to victims of domestic abuse. Rosales was given emergency shelter and money to pay for a divorce attorney."It helped me have a future. It gave me exactly what it promises- HOPE."Rosales has this advice for other survivors."I was ashamed to ask for help. I didn't know services like this exist. I am here to tell you there's great courage in asking for help and taking that first step... I hope and I pray to change one other person's world out there by sharing my story. My heart aches for those who do not make it like my mom, for those who do not know how to get out or where to go, for those that think an abusive relationship is normal. Anything is possible and each and every person is deserving of a beautiful and safe life... I am happy now. These tears are tears of joy."During the pandemic, domestic violence incidents have increased. From January to June 2020, there were 8,495 domestic violence incidents reported to law enforcement in San Diego County, as compared to 8,235 during the same period in 2019; a 3% increase from the prior year according to the San Diego County District Attorney's office. The Victim Assistance Program advocates at the District Attorney's office served 2,940 victims from March-July 2020, as compared to 1,941 in 2019; a 51% increase in those served.Operation for Hope will hold it's biggest fundraiser of the year October 28, 20202. 10News Anchor Vanessa Van Hyfte will be emceeing the live event and silent auction. Westfield North County has created specific family programming throughout the week for families looking to escape the brutal North County heat. The mall is offering family game nights from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday nights now through August 9. “Borrow one of our board games or play one of our life-sized versions of popular games like Tic-Tac-Toe, Jenga, Connect Four and Cornhole,” the mall says. A summer concert series will also be making its way to the mall on Fridays between 4 and 6 p.m. through the beginning of August.
