SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego students have a new way to report claims of physical or sexual abuse in school.Thursday, District Attorney Summer Stephan announced the creation of a new, online reporting system for suspected abuse. She also announced the creation of the Student Safety in School Systems Task Force."It's critically important that these reports don't fall through the cracks," Stephan says. They fear the claims won't be taken seriously, or the allegations could be covered up. The new online system gives the students a more secure feeling that their claims will be investigated.The task force will vet and review every submission and follow up with the appropriate law enforcement agency. They will also guide the person facing the suspected abuse to find resources and other available services for help.This will not replace the responsibility of mandated reporters within schools, Stephan says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Santa Ana winds and low humidity will bring fire danger to San Diego County this week.Relative humidity is down to 10% to 15% in the county, according to the National Weather Service San Diego, causing localized fire weather conditions through Tuesday ahead of moderate to strong Santa Ana winds peaking on Thursday.The high wind weather is expected to last Wednesday night into Friday, the NWS said. Winds will gradually weaken next weekend, but dry air will remain in the county."It is already starting out dry preceding this next event which is not good," the NWS wrote. "Relative humidity will plummet further and by Thursday, single-digit and teen relative humidity could drive all the way to the coast."The county can expect to see temperatures steadily rise 5 to 10 degrees above normal west of the mountains and about 3 to 6 degrees above normal elsewhere into Tuesday, NWS says.Despite this, cooler temperatures will work their way into the county overnight."Nights will remain cool, especially for the wind-sheltered areas. The U.S. Postal Service estimates 850 million packages and 15 billion pieces of mail altogether, and Amazon says in 2016 they sent more than a billion items world wide through Prime.But this year, more companies have ways for you to protect your deliveries.Ring doorbells are becoming popular. They have motion-sensing cameras that connect to your smartphone, alerting users to see anyone that comes to the door. Their Facebook page is full of videos where owners scared off would-be thieves with an alarm or by shouting through a connected microphone.The company is also encouraging people to download their app. Even if you don't have a Ring Doorbell, the app will send you alerts any time suspicious activity is reported in your neighborhood.Also new this holiday season is the Amazon Key, an option introduced this fall. Delivery drivers would be able to put packages inside your home.Amazon also has lockers all around San Diego that packages can be sent to. (Wildlife Information, Rescue, and Education Service). SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several birds were rescued from a San Diego apartment after a downstairs unit caught fire.According to crews, the fire started around 10:45 a.m. Sunday at an apartment on the 1700 block of Oro Vista Road.Shortly after noticing smoke, residents at the complex grabbed every fire extinguisher they could get their hands on in an effort to extinguish the flames and keep the blaze from spreading to the second floor.Firefighters say no one was home at the time of the fire and several birds were rescued. 529
