SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning in the Midway District, police said.Dispatchers received a call shortly before 5 a.m. from a driver who reported hitting a pedestrian on Sports Arena Boulevard near West Point Loma Boulevard, just south of Interstate 8, San Diego police Officer Scott Lockwood said.The victim, a man believed to be in his 30s, was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Lockwood said.The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, but no details about the driver or the vehicle were immediately available, the officer said.The circumstances leading up to the crash were under investigation. 704
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Wednesday publicly identified a Chula Vista city employee found slain in his home near Mount Helix.Chula Vista police personnel conducting a welfare check at the request of a co-worker found the body of 38-year-old Kevin Powell in his residence in the 4400 block of Carmen Drive in Casa De Oro shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday.Because the neighborhood is in an unincorporated area, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department was called in to take charge of the case, said sheriff's Lt. Thomas Seiver.Powell's death has been ruled a homicide, said Seiver, who declined to specify how the victim is believed to have died."The preliminary cause-of-death (finding) is being withheld for investigative reasons," Seiver said.Powell's work supervisor asked police to check on him after he missed several meetings, according to the sheriff's department. 878

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Countywide sales of previously owned single-family homes and attached properties both fell from September to October while prices increased, according to data released Thursday by the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors.Sales of single-family homes fell 4.9% from 1,862 in September to 1,771 in October while attached-property sales fell 2% from 943 in September to 924 last month. Sold listings of both property types have fallen for four consecutive months, according to the GSDAR.Median sale prices of single-family homes rose 3.1% from 5,000 in September to 5,000 in October while attached property prices increased 2.4% from 9,000 in September to 9,000 last month. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was suspected of stealing a car from a Rolando Park used auto dealership early this morning, then crashing the car when he tried to flee from police.An unknown number of accomplices stole three other cars from the same dealership, and all the accomplices remained unaccounted for Sunday afternoon, San Diego Police Officer Sarah Foster said.Two of the cars were eventually recovered, while one was still outstanding.Police were alerted to a break-in around 2 a.m. at Cash For Cars on University Avenue, Foster said. Officers spotted one of the four stolen cars leaving the parking lot and tried to pull it over.The driver fled, and police pursued him until he crashed into an embankment on College Avenue near Streamview Drive, Foster said.The suspect was arrested with the help of a police dog after he tried to hide from officers in a home near the spot where he crashed, Foster said.The man was treated for a bite wound before being booked into jail.Detectives were continuing to search for the remaining suspects. 1049
