(KGTV)- Video of a disturbing racist rant was captured in downtown San Diego Tuesday, and the man who experienced the verbal attack is sharing his story.Rodney Jackson was working as a security guard outside of the Pinnacle on the Park apartment complex in the East Village when an unidentified woman began hurling racial slurs at him.“I was trying my best to diffuse the situation, and she just continued to antagonize,” said Jackson. “It kind of caught me off guard because I’ve never dealt with anything like that before.”RELATED: Mother responds to video showing woman hurling racial slurs at son (VIDEO)In the video he recorded, the woman repeatedly attacks Jackson with racial slurs, even after he asks her to stop.“I started recording just to save myself because of everything going on,” he said.The unprovoked verbal attack happened in the early morning hours on Tuesday.Jackson said the woman was kicked out of a party at the high rise.“She went outside and started arguing with some people walking back, I asked her to come in the building, and I’ll call her a cab,” he said.He said she appeared to be intoxicated and suddenly directed her anger at him.“I told her again, ‘I called you a cab, but I don’t agree with the way you’re calling me all these different names’ and she just continues.”The video shows the woman calling Jackson the N-word repeatedly during the confrontation.“If you’re going to act like a n-----, then I’m going to call you n-----,” the unidentified woman shouts at Jackson. “I don’t [expletive] care!”Jackson remains calm and composed as the woman continues to harass him.“My mother and my grandmother, they raised me never to let anyone get me too upset to where it gets me out of character or changes the person that I am,” he said. “They raised me to be a strong black man.”Jackson said he grew up in National City in a multi-cultural neighborhood, and this was his first time experiencing something like this.“I’ve never looked at people by their color,” he said. “I played semi-pro football for a San Diego team, and we had people from all kinds of ethnic backgrounds, and we’re all just a family.”Jackson’s brother and mother shared the video on social media to highlight the issue of racism.He said he hopes the painful video will serve as a reminder that racism does still exists, even in that community.“Be open-minded and accept people for who they are. The stronger everyone comes together, the better the world will be,” he said.He wants anyone who has experienced racism to remember this: “Stand strong for yourself and don’t ever let anyone belittle you or make you feel like less of a person.” 2669

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sailboat damaged the USS Midway Sunday.The mast of the sailboat collided with a safety net attachment on the front port-side ‘horn’ of the ship. The crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. according to Harbor Police.The mast of the sailboat snapped off. There was minor damage to the safety nets of the Midway.“I thought something fell off the flight line, I didn't think a boat would crash into the Midway,” said Craig Wiener, who was touring the Midway at the time of the crash. “We were looking out the little port windows, and you see the mast falling off into the water."Harbor patrol says no charges are expected and attributed the crash to inexperience on the part of the person steering the sailboat.  Eight people were onboard the sailboat, and none of them were hurt.“He didn't realize how close he was and how tall his mast was and it was too late and the wind pulled him in,” Wiener said. 945

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --Lanes of the southbound 805 freeway were closed Friday night, after a major crash north of the Home Avenue exit. San Diego police confirm an officer was nearly hit by a car while responding to the accident and made an urgent call for backup.The blue, four-door sedan involved in the crash was smashed up against an embankment when the 10News crew got to the scene. 10News Anchor Brian Shlonsky posted on the southbound 94, near the onramp to the 805, where officers were flagging traffic to notify them of the closure.  566

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - A San Diego-based rancher says their business has grown as the corporate meat industry struggles.In the past months, Doug Lindamood, of SonRise Ranch, says they've seen their ranch experience a surge in business.“Surprisingly, in an odd set of circumstances, we’ve had a ranch that’s been very successful during these times,” he said. He said their business has easily tripled since the beginning of the pandemic. They’ve seen more people seeking food safety, so they’re buying meat in bulk. The ranch typically sells about 10-12 half or full cows a year, but that’s recently increased to 10-12 a week. This boost comes as the industrial meat industry is hurting across the country. Lindamood said a handful of companies produce a majority of the meat in the U.S. and the big players have been hit with sick employees, causing closures and less supply. “Highly consolidated plants being affected by basically a pandemic which then has the potential to shut down a vast portion of our production,” he said. Lindamood adds this has been a ticking time bomb that needs to be addressed. “For every one of those small plants that shut down over the last 20 or 30 years, we lost a small piece of our soul with respect to connecting to our consumers,” Lindamood said. “We need not one or 10 of me — which there are maybe five or six of us in the Southern California region.
