Former FBI Director James Comey wrote in his unreleased book that President Donald Trump asked him to look into one of the most infamous allegations in a dossier of claims about Trump and Russia, the New York Post reported Thursday.The Post said it obtained a copy of the book, and that in the book, Comey wrote that Trump wanted him to prove the allegation was false in part to prove its falsehood to his wife, first lady Melania Trump."He brought up what he called the 'golden showers thing,'" the Post quotes Comey as writing.The dossier was commissioned as opposition research by political opponents of then-candidate Trump and compiled by a former British intelligence agent.Portions of the dossier remain unconfirmed.The book reportedly continues, "It bothered him if there was 'even a one percent chance' his wife, Melania, thought it was true. ... He just rolled on, unprompted, explaining why it couldn't possibly be true, ending by saying he was thinking of asking me to investigate the allegation to prove it was a lie. FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A Lee County deputy is starting an incredible journey.  He will run nearly 400 miles from Lee County to Tallahassee in honor of fallen officers.Sgt. Sammy Gonzalez said this will be a grueling and difficult run, but it’s not impossible.  He has been with the sheriff’s office for 10 years now and said he's doing this run to help families of fallen officers."I've been running nonstop, it's almost a year for preparation for this," he said.Thursday morning, Gonzalez begins his 390-mile journey from Fort Myers to Tallahassee in the next 8-9 days.“It’s going to be an emotional finish. I can't even explain what it's going to be like when I arrive at the state capitol."Back in 2005, Sgt Gonzalez had a good friend killed in the line of duty.  "I tell people I can't bring back these fallen officers back, but what I'm doing is I'm raising money and awareness for those families who are left behind," he said. So far, he's raised ,000 for the charity Concerns of Police Survivors, and he hopes to raise ,000 more by the time he gets to the state capitol."Last year, 135 officers died in the United States," he said. "That's 135 too many."The first day, Gonzalez will run about 40 miles. He said they've planned it out every step of the way.  "I'm staying in an RV, actually," he said. "I have a 3-person team from the sheriff’s office that will be with me the entire trip."My only concern is the heat," he said. I've ran in hot conditions in the past, and it can play tricks on the mind."He will get to Tallahassee just in time for the state's annual memorial that honors and celebrates lives lost in the line of duty.Sgt. For millions of college students, this election will be their first time being able to vote for the President of the United States. While some students have been waiting for this opportunity for years, historically, many others may not even end up casting a ballot. Two groups who are responsible for mobilizing first-time voters on college campuses are the College Democrats and College Republicans. Both are national organizations with chapters on most university campuses. COVID-19 CHALLENGESIn a normal election year, Democrat and Republican clubs on campuses like Arizona State University would host almost daily events in the run-up to the election. Pizza parties, free food and guest speakers all serve the purpose of getting first-time voters registered and excited to participate in the election. But on many campuses this year, in-person events are banned, or at the very least, restricted. "This semester is obviously presenting a challenge," said Clay Robinson, vice president of the College Republicans at ASU.Robinson said one major impact has been the inability to set up tables near busy parts of campus to attract new members. As a result, membership has been slightly off. "Usually we’d be having in-person events, we’d be offering free food," Robinson said. The College Democrats have also seen an impact, potentially problematic for Democrats in Arizona since college students tend to vote more progressive. "I don't come on campus at all," said Cameron Adams, president of the ASU Young Democrats.Adams says in addition to missing in-person events, she misses knocking on doors for candidates. "We are known as the powerhouse of knocking on doors, so it's really different to not be doing that, Adams said. "I miss it so much."HOW THEY'VE BEEN MOBILIZING Both Robinson and Adams say they've been holding virtual meet-ups on Zoom, and the response has actually been better than expected. "I've actually been surprised how many people we’ve been able to keep coming to meetings," Robinson said. Adams says speakers have also been willing to participate remotely, which gives the group reasons to come together. "We’ve been having debate watch parties," Adams added. Whether or not this impacts results is unclear, but it is clear that college political groups have been impacted in one of the most important elections in recent memory. 2363
