SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Thousands of members of the LGBTQ Community and their allies lined the streets of Hillcrest to celebrate the San Diego Pride Parade Saturday morning. More than 200 floats were on display at this year's event. We asked the crowd, "What does "Pride" mean to you?""It means finally being able to live out and proud.""It's the freedom to celebrate who we are.""Love our neighbor as ourselves and love God!"Some have been coming to the San Diego Pride Parade for decades. "Oh my gosh, she's been 26 years of marching in pride with me," Dana Harwood said of her mother. "...And I love my lesbian daughter!" her mother, Bobbi said. For others, this year's parade is their debut to the world. "Fours months ago, I started my transition," Grace McBride said. "I am just so happy now that I came out to be authentic."For 55 years, people called her Dale. But today, she is proudly Grace."Dale was struggling. Dale was a Marine. Dale worked for the cable company, and anymore now I just want to share the love," McBride said. It has been a long struggle for the LGBTQ community. The most notable moment was the Stonewall Riots in 1969, where New York Police raided LGBTQ members staying at the Stonewall Inn. "Stonewall gave us a sense of freedom. A sense of power," Drag Queen Vera Del Mar said.Vera Del Mar grew up in National City but now lives in Tucson. She made it a point to make it back to her hometown Pride this year."I had to show off my new hairdo!" she said.What was once considered 'underground' or 'shameful' has now become part of mainstream culture, even mainstream media. This year, many familiar faces of the 10News team joined the 10News float and greeted parade-goers. 14-year-old Alexis Engelmann came out as lesbian last year. She says she is lucky to have her entire family in her corner. "It's cool because it's not really different at all," her younger brother Mile said. "We just like to support her and help her succeed in life."Like the thousands of people at the parade, Alexis is proud. She is celebrating, not hiding her Pride. "I love them [my family] so much, and I am so grateful," Alexis said. If you missed the Pride Parade this morning, there are plenty of other things to do around Hillcrest. SAN DIEGO (KGTV): A new study shows that young adults are seeing a spike in deaths from liver disease related to binge drinking. It's especially dangerous in California, where high alcohol content drinks are popular.The study, published this month in the British Medical Journal, says that the number of 25- to 34-year-olds who died annually from alcohol-related liver disease nearly tripled between 1999 and 2016, from 259 in 1999 to 767 in 2016, an average annual increase of around 10 percent.It cites binge drinking as a leading cause, because of rising rates of alcohol consumption between 2002 and 2012.It's especially bad in California, which the study says was among the top five states for those types of deaths.Local experts say the kind of alcohol we drink may be to blame, as craft beers tend to have higher concentrations of alcohol."If someone was having highly concentrated alcohol, then they're consuming more drinks per hour," says Dr. Rohit Loomba, with the UC San Diego Health Liver Center. "That will have detrimental effects on the liver, for sure."The CDC recommends no more than 1-2 drinks per day for "moderate" drinking. Binge drinking is defined as 4 or more drinks over 4-6 hours. Loomba says you may hit the "binge" point in fewer drinks if what you're having is stronger.For example, a Bud Light has just 4.2% alcohol by volume. Craft beers often have 6% or higher, so one craft beer may be as much as 2 or 3 other drinks."That quantity of alcohol intake over years definitely will contribute to higher risk for liver disease," says Loomba.He says people should ask themselves four questions to determine if they are drinking too much:1. Have you ever cut down on drinking? 2. Would you be annoyed if somebody asked you to cut down on drinking? 3. Do you feel guilty after drinking excessively over a weekend? 4. Do you need an "eye-opener" in the morning to get to work?Dr. Loomba says if you answered "yes" to 2 or more of these questions, you should talk to your doctor to discuss treatment.He also says obesity combined with alcohol can lead to more severe liver problems and even death. People with diabetes or who are overweight multiply their risk of the disease."If you're obese, you not only should restrict your alcohol, but you should try to lose some weight as well," says Loomba.The study says the financial crisis may have led to more binge drinking in the past decade, as young adults turned to alcohol to cope with financial stress. Researchers found the rise in alcohol-related deaths overlaps with rising rates of binge drinking from 2002 to 2012 observed across much of the U.S.The good news, according to the study, is that many liver diseases are preventable and reversible."Once you stop alcohol use, you can reverse complications related to it in the majority of cases," says Dr. Loomba. 2882

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- The tenants of two galleries in North Park tell 10News the new owner of their building has raised the rent so high they're been left with no choice but to leave. Owners at The Studio Door and Good Friday will both be gone from their current location on 30th Street by the end of the summer. "It was devastating we've been searching trying to find something new another space but the rents are just so high right now, " said Chris Smith, who has been with The Studio Door for nearly four years.Smith says the rent went from ,000 a month to nearly ,000. He says the galleries were some of the only left in the area."There used to be a lot of artists and art galleries here in North Park," he said. "That's what really built up North Park to be what it is and as the rents went up they all just get pushed out." So far there's no word on what will take over the spaces once the current tenants are out. 965

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) San Diego real estate icon Doug Manchester lost his nomination to be the ambassador to the Bahamas after a series of emails that may have implied pay for play proposition, according to a new report.The report, from CBS News, uncovered an email exchange between Manchester and Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel. The exchange came just days after Manchester returned from a humanitarian trip to the Bahamas to provide post Hurricane Dorian aid. President Trump nominated Manchester to the ambassadorship in 2017. (KGTV) Firefighters continue to mop up after the Valley Fire tore through Lawson Valley, burning 17,665 acres.Messages of gratitude for the crews on the frontlines can be seen throughout the area.At least 30 homes and 31 minor structures were destroyed, but all evacuation orders and road closures were lifted on Friday.In much of the burn area, firetrucks have been replaced with utility vehicles.“I watched the flames start coming over the mountain, like fingers, like some creature,” said Seth Matteson who lives in Lawson Valley.He left his home as the fire started to spread Sept. 5, fearing the worst, but was thankful to come home and find his house on Prairie Drive still standing.“In the back it came right up to the house, and in the front it came right up to the house,” he explained.Just down the road, several homes and vehicles burned in the fire.“I’ve been through 8 hurricanes, and this is way scarier to me than that.
