BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese official Li Changchun Thursday called for reform and innovation in promoting the development and prosperity of the country's animation industry.     Li, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark during his visit to the first China Animation and Cartoon Arts Exhibition held in Beijing.     Li said the animation and cartoon arts has played a very important role in enriching people's cultural lives and cultivating new economic growth area.     The country's animation industry is standing at a crucial point, Li said, urging practitioners in the industry to work hard and continue reform and innovation to push for the development and prosperity of the industry. SHANGHAI, Nov. 1 (Xinhua)-- HSBC has raised its forecast of China's GDP growth this year to 8.1 percent, said HSBC Group Chairman Stephen Green here Sunday.     The bank's previous forecast was 7.8 percent.     While attending the annual International Business Leaders' Advisory Council (IBLAC), Green said the world financial crisis has not derailed either of the two most noteworthy and transformative trends in global finance: "the rise of China and the shift from west to east."     He also expected effects of China's stimulus packages would further lift the country's GDP growth and sustain the recovery momentum into 2010.     Green said Shanghai, as China's largest city, had kept a relatively stable growth during the crisis, which suggested it had the potential to become one of the world's financial centers comparable to New York or London.

COPENHAGEN, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Thursday that China is not obliged to subject its voluntary climate action to international monitoring.     Wen made the remarks when meeting with some world leaders on the sidelines of the ongoing UN climate change conference in the Danish capital, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei told reporters. The Bali Action Plan has clear stipulations regarding whether a country's mitigation action should be subject to international scrutiny, He Yafei quoted Wen as saying.     "For developing countries, only those mitigation actions supported internationally will be subject to the MRV. The voluntary mitigation actions should not be subject to international MRV," Wen said, referring to the scheme requiring national mitigation action to be "measurable, reportable and verifiable." BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's upcoming state visits to Malaysia and Singapore would comprehensively push forward China's ties with the two nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), said an official with the Foreign Ministry here Friday.     Hu will pay state visits to Malaysia and Singapore from Nov. 10to 13, at the invitations of Malaysian Supreme Head of State Mizan Zainal Abidin and Singaporean President S. R. Nathan.     It is the first time for President Hu Jintao to pay state visits to Malaysia and Singapore as president of China, and it is also the first time in 15 years for a Chinese President to visit the two countries, said Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue at a news briefing.     During his stay in Malaysia, Hu will hold talks with Supreme Head of State Mizan and meet with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.     "President Hu's visit to Malaysia will surely further deepen strategic cooperation between the two nations and advance bilateral ties," said the assistant foreign minister.     While in Singapore, he will hold talks with President Nathan and meet with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.     President Hu will exchange views with Singaporean leaders on deepening mutually beneficial and cooperative ties, and discuss international and regional issues of common concern," said the assistant foreign minister.     Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce Yi Xiaozhun said China and the two countries had good economic and trade relations and were each other's important trade partners.     In Malaysia, the two sides will sign economic and trade cooperative documents to push forward joint projects in the infrastructure area.     While in Singapore, leaders of both nations will discuss on how to promote bilateral trade and investment, advance major cooperative projects and enhance cooperation within the framework of regional and international trade.     "We believe that President Hu's visit will surely expand the scale of economic and trade cooperation between China and the two countries, and promote the sustained and stable development of bilateral relations, " Yi said.
