SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Humane Society has placed 140 rats up for adoption after they were given up by a woman in Del Mar this week.The rats have undergone veterinary exams and tests and are "happy and ready" for adoption, the Humane Society says. Because rats are social animals, the society is only adopting them out in same-gender pairs unless the owner already has a rat.The rodents were given to SDHS after a woman's pet rats multiplied out of control while she was living out of her vehicle in Del Mar. The population eventually grew to more than 300 pet rats. The rats chewed through the vehicle's wiring, rendering it inoperable.RELATED: Del Mar neighbors aid woman living in car with 300 pet ratsNeighbors have since rallied around the woman, helping her tow her old vehicle, get a new car, and turn over the rats to SDHS. Many of the rats were pregnant females and are currently in foster care through the Humane Society. The 140 rats available now are males and non-pregnant females, according to SDHS."Although rats are not as common as other small rodents, they make great pets," SDHS said. "They are very social, smart and love to interact with humans ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are asking the public to help find the driver who left a man with several severe injuries along an Ocean Beach street last month.Police say at about 10 p.m. on Sept. 6, a 64-year-old man was walking his bike northbound in the bicycle lane of the 4000 block of Nimitz Blvd. The suspect, driving a newer model Nissan Versa Note hatchback (shown below), struck the victim. The driver sped off, leaving the man severely injured.The victim was taken to a nearby hospital suffering from several fractures to his pelvis, ribs, fibula, and foot. He also suffered lacerations and injuries to his bladder and liver. The man is expected to survive but remains hospitalized, police say.Police say the Nissan should have damage to its passenger side front headlight, fender, and side view mirror. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Reverend Sandra Dority knows the dangers of heart disease, the top killer in San Diego County."My sister just passed from a heart attack in December, and my mom had congestive heart failure," she told 10News this week.That's why the 74-year old makes sure to eat right, exercise and, above all, know her numbers."My blood pressure is 116 over 74, and that was after a five mile walk on Saturday," she says.Dority tells everyone she can to know their numbers. It's a message she says is especially important in the black community, where the prevalence of heart attacks, stroke and high blood pressure are higher than normal."We have to change our lifestyle," she says. "There is a better way to live, because the numbers aren't changing unless we change."Dority was one of the first people to join LiveWell San Diego in their Love Your Heart campaign, which offers free blood pressure screenings at hundreds of locations across the county. She brought information to her church, Mount Moriah Christian Church in Mira Mesa.Now, she volunteers at blood pressure screening events, helps run educational sessions, and makes sure pastors talk about heart health from the pulpit every Sunday."God is love and he wants us to reach out and let others know there's a better way to live. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a door-to-door solicitor who has prompted a string of complaints about threatening outbursts and who was seen on video taking swings at a woman in Pacific Beach.Corey Lamont Terry, 45, is wanted on felony charges of making criminal threats and attempted burglary, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. A warrant for his arrest was issued earlier this month, according to the Sheriff’s Department website.Police have been investigating Terry since at least early November, after “several” people complained about Terry’s aggressive language while soliciting money door-to-door, according to SDPD Lt. Shawn Takeuchi.Takeuchi urged the public to call their local police agency if they spot Terry, who is about 6 feet tall and weighs roughly 220 pounds. He said residents should not approach him based on his past behavior.Terry has canvassed neighborhoods in Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach in recent weeks, claiming he is raising money for charity.
