SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- National Forests throughout Southern California will close Monday night as wildfires continue to ravage the state.Stanislaus National Forest, Sierra National Forest, Sequoia National Forest, Inyo National Forest, Los Padres National Forest, Angeles National Forest, San Bernardino National Forest, and Cleveland National Forest will all close Monday at 5 p.m., according to the US Department of Agriculture. The agency also prohibited the use of any ignition source on all National Forest System lands throughout the state. All developed campgrounds and day-use sited in National Forests throughout the state have will also shutter operations.“The wildfire situation throughout California is dangerous and must be taken seriously. Existing fires are displaying extreme fire behavior, new fire starts are likely, weather conditions are worsening, and we simply do not have enough resources to fully fight and contain every fire,” said Randy Moore, Regional Forester for the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region.“We are bringing every resource to bear nationally and internationally to fight these fires, but until conditions improve, and we are confident that National Forest visitors can recreate safely, the priority is always to protect the public and our firefighters. With these extreme conditions, these temporary actions will help us do both.”It’s unclear when the forests will again reopen. 1431

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 75,000 homes in San Diego are in areas that pose a "high" or "extreme" risk of wildfire, according to a new study by CoreLogic. That's the third most homes in the US, behind only Los Angeles and Riverside. In San Diego, the study found that it would cost .81 billion to rebuild all those homes. The news comes as San Diego, and California as a whole, are in the midst of a relatively tame wildfire season. According to Cal Fire, there have been 4,9267 wildfires so far this year. That's well below the pace of the last two years, when there were 7,571 fires in 2018 and 9,133 fires in 2017.Similarly, the amount of land burned by the fires is down in 2019. So far, 117,586 acres have been scorched. In 2018, the total number was 1,671,203 acres. In 2017, 1,240,606 acres were burned.Cal Fire says cooler temperatures and higher than normal humidity caused the number of wild fires to drop this year."When humidity is up, the fire doesn't burn as aggressively as it could if they were lower," says Cal Fire Captain Isaac Sanchez. "That's played a big factor for us this year."But, Sanchez warns that people shouldn't look at the low numbers and think the risk is also low. He says the next few months will have prime conditions for a devastating fire."We've seen the hottest days we're going to see, the temperatures have been warm, the humidity has been low," says Sanchez. "So the fuels that are in the hillsides right now are receptive to fires."Sanchez says people should remain fire-ready. That means clearing 100 feet of defensible space around your home, having an evacuation plan and taking extra precautions against anything that could spark a wildfire. For more information on preparing, visit readysandiego.org. 1759

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Parts of Balboa Park reopened Friday after the COVID-19 pandemic forced closures in March.Park officials said the following areas would reopen: Central Mesa (El Prado, Plaza de Panama, Cabrillo Bridge, Pan American Plaza), all parking lots, Prado Restaurant, Tea Pavilion, and Visitors Center.Tim Lu and his daughter Matilda have been looking forward to a bike ride at the park for a long time. They live nearby and drove by regularly ever since the park closed. Week after week, all they saw were empty streets and sidewalks. When they got the news that parts of Balboa Park were going to reopen, Lu wanted to make sure they were there for the first day. And he wasn’t alone, as others showed up equally as happy to see the park reopen.Sarah Beckman, director of the Balboa Park Conservancy, said, “This is part of people’s daily routines. This is a neighborhood park. It’s also a global destination but our friends have been missing this for a long time now.”While at the park or the trails, San Diego County and city health orders are still in effect. They have signs posted around the property to remind you. You have to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and if you are sick stay home.A way of life, Lu says he doesn’t mind.“Things haven’t changed. We don’t have a vaccine. A cure. So even though things are opening up we want to keep our progress going and keep things open and not have to shut down again,” said Lu.As for museums, they will reopen on their own schedules. The first to open is the Air and Space Museum. 1557

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday evening, a city official put inspection tags the doors of the Barrio Logan warehouse where a platform collapsed this weekend, injuring 21 minors and a few adults. It happened Saturday night at Vault PK parkour gym on Main Street. The facility is closed until further notice.RELATED: Structure collapses at Barrio Logan parkour centerOn Monday, inspectors with the city of San Diego toured the warehouse as part of their investigation, which is still in its preliminary stages. A city spokesperson told us there are "definite code violations" and permit issues, but no further details were released. Cal/OSHA was notified of the incident but is not investigating since no workers were injured. Team 10 verified that Vault PK's business license became active in July. On the gym's Facebook page, it appears the owner posted in June that her father and brother were working on much of the construction of the gym. RELATED:?Investigation underway in platform collapse at San Diego parkour gymMonday afternoon, Team 10 spoke to a local father whose wife, son and daughter were at the gym at the time of the collapse. He didn't want his name used but said his son sustained injuries to his foot and his wife has a broken foot. He says his 16-year-old daughter is still in the hospital with a broken pelvis and broken arm. There's no word on when she'll be released. The father says he was at the parkour gym a few days before the incident and told us the facility appeared like it didn't meet proper safety standards.Vault PK also operates a facility in Torrance and told Team 10 investigator Jennifer Kastner the gym is closed for inspections. 1719
