"We have offered condolences to the victims on many occasions."What China has in mind in approaching the incident, in which 46 South Korean sailors died after their warship sank in March, is maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, he said.China attaches importance to the joint investigation conducted by South Korea and other countries and the reactions of various parties, and will take its position on the basis of truth and facts, he added.China appealed for calm on the part of the concerned parties so as to avoid a further escalation of tension and even conflict, he said.The Chinese premier said China understands the current difficult situation President Lee Myung-bak and the South Korean government are facing.China will seek information from various sources and seriously study it before making clear its stand in "a fair and objective manner," he said."We will adopt an impartial position," he said. China also maintains that any approach on it must serve the fundamental interest of maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, he added.Wen said Japan is an important country in Northeast Asia and a close neighbor of China and South Korea. NANNING, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The government of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region issued a fire ban Saturday ahead of the upcoming Tomb-sweeping Day, in a bid to prevent forest fires against the backdrop of a prolonged drought.According to the ban, tomb-goers are forbidden to burn paper money or incenses and to set off fireworks in forest zones from April 3 to 17.They are also banned from burning straws, leaves, charcoal and others in forest zones.Violators will be fined or even detained and prosecuted, according to the ban.As of Wednesday, the drought, which began in southwestern China last year, has left 19.4 million people with water shortages and affected 6.48 million hectares of farmland in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi and Chongqing, according to the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.It is a tradition for Chinese to visit family graves during the Qingming or Tomb-sweeping Day, which falls on April 5 this year. Memorial activities range from burning paper money to setting off fireworks.In 2008, the government made Tomb-sweeping Day an official holiday in response to public appeals.

SANAA, April 11 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese medical mission arrived Sunday in the southern Yemeni province of Aden as part of a cooperation agreement between the two countries, state-run Saba news agency reported.The 45-strong mission will provide medical services to residents of the southern provinces of Aden, Lahij, Abyan and Hadramout, according to the report.The mission includes neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, thoracic surgeons, pediatric surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists and a number of administrative staff, Jamal Khadabish, director of the Aden-based al-Jomhoriya hospital, was quoted by Saba as saying.The mandate of the Chinese mission would last for one year in accordance with a protocol of health cooperation between Yemen and China, Khadabish noted.

BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 4.6 degrees on the Richter scale jolted Yangqu County of Taiyuan city in northern China's Shanxi Province at 8:58 p.m. Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.The epicenter was 38.2 degrees north latitude and 112.7 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 5 km.No instant reports of casualties are available.
