FREMONT, Neb. (KMTV) — For two sisters, the pandemic has brought some joy. After being separated at an early age, they've reunited and they say it was all because of COVID-19."To find out how I got to find her was because it was the Lord’s blessing," said Doris Crippen.Doris may be the first person happy about getting COVID-19."No, I seen her once when she was a baby and I held her. And the rest of my life growing up I never thought I’d find her again," said Crippen.Doris and Bev Boro were two long-lost sisters and are now reunited at Methodist Fremont Health."Our search is over, we don't have to look anymore," said Crippen.Boro is a medication aide at the hospital, and when she recently saw a list of patient names, one caught her attention -- Crippen's. So she wrote a message on a dry erase board since Doris is hard of hearing."I went in with one of the whiteboards and I said to her, 'is your father Wendall Huffman?' She goes 'that's my daddy', and I pointed at myself and I go 'that's mine, too.'" said Boro.Crippen, who has since recovered from COVID-19, was in the hospital for a broken arm after a fall due to weakness caused by the virus."I looked at her and I looked at her some more after she asked me about being Wendall Huffman’s daughter... she has to be some kind of relation to me,” said Doris.Boro said she was nervous about breaking the news and for Crippen it was emotional."She said 'I am your sister, Bev.' And I literally stood up out of the chair and burst into tears. It's just a happy feeling. It's been 53 years since I've seen her when she was a baby,” said Crippen.Boro had researched her sister before, without luck, but now thanks to a global pandemic, they both feel their world is a little more complete."If it wasn't for that, I would have never found her. If it wasn't for that, I would have never ended up in the hospital with a broken arm,” said Crippen.Boro and Crippen both say they plan on having a big family reunion when they're able to and are looking forward to the future.Doris says she is feeling better from her broken arm and is anxious to visit Boro’s home and meet her children.This story originally reported by John Madden on 3NewsNow.com. 2208

FRANKLIN, Indiana — Authorities in Indiana are warning people of a scam involving a person who is claiming to be a sheriff's deputy in order to deceive people into sending money.According to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, a woman came to the Johnson County Jail on Wednesday who said while she was at work she received a call from an individual who claimed to be a sheriff's deputy.The individual told the woman she had a warrant for her arrest due to failure to appear for jury duty selection. The suspect told the woman if she wanted to avoid arrest she needed to pay the fines by purchasing ,000 worth of Apple Store gift cards. The suspect also told the woman she would need to go to the sheriff's office with her receipts to prove her identity.After making the initial purchase in pre-paid gift cards, the suspect informed the woman 0 was not transferred, according to the sheriff's office. The suspect reportedly told the woman to purchase another 0 in pre-paid Apple gift cards. The woman said she was on the phone with the suspect for approximately two hours until all the transactions were made and confirmed. She then drove to the sheriff's office where she was informed she was the victim of a scam.The woman was distraught and told deputies she is recently divorced and the money used from her saving account was being saved for her children's Christmas gifts. 1413

Fewer people are choosing to live in senior housing amid the pandemic. Occupancy has gone down more than 2.5% for two quarters in a row.A trade group for housing providers looked at numbers from April through September of this year and found the senior housing sector is experiencing the largest drop in occupancy on record.“We have heard from people who, you know, their first priority is to get older parents out of more hazardous locations, such as nursing homes, and when they are looking for options in terms of where to move them, part of the option of course is to bring them into their home,” said Danielle Arigoni, Director of AARP Livable Communities.Arigoni says the financial benefits of living in a multi-generational home are getting some people to think about it during the pandemic. But others are avoiding it because of concerns about COVID-19 exposure risks for older family members.Arigoni says there is a renewed interest in accessory dwelling units.
