(KGTV) -- The family of Trevor Heitmann, the popular internet personality who drove a sports car into another vehicle killing a mother and her young daughter, say they are devastated and are working to understand what led to Thursday’s tragedy. “Our family is devastated over the tragic loss of our beloved Trevor Heitmann,” the family said in a statement sent to this station via email Saturday by their attorney. “We express our deepest condolences to the Pizarro family and anyone impacted by this incident.” “We are piecing together the facts and circumstances that lead to this incomprehensible tragedy.”The family also thanked first responders for their “valiant efforts and dedication.”Heitmann, 18, was behind the wheel of the 2014 sports car that collided with an SUV, killing himself, and a 43-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.Heitmann was traveling at a high rate of speed heading southbound in a northbound HOV lane at about 4:30 p.m. near La Jolla Village Drive before the collision, CHP said. Troopers believe he entered via an HOV lane access at Carol Canyon Road. The two vehicles collided and exploded into flames, witnesses told 10News, causing a chain reaction of crashes with at least five other vehicles.  1315

(KGTV) - The Navy is taking action to assess living conditions in military housing amid complaints of rodents, mold, and water damage. Families have shared stories about housing problems with 10News over several weeks. The Navy sent a survey Monday to received feedback on the situation. Erika Bradley, a Navy wife and mother, said she arrived at MCAS Miramar last June to find mice and mold in her new home. “When my husband calls and he's in a war zone, do you think I am going to complain about mold? ‘Hey babe, we have rats where our children eat,” Bradley said. “I don't want him to worry about that because if his mind isn't focused where it needs to be, that's peoples lives.” Lawmakers are trying to push a bill through Congress that would give military families power to withhold rent from landlords. More than 700,000 people live in privatized housing across military bases. Bradley is hoping the military will put more pressure on private companies, holding them accountable. The company compiled data from its Drives feature in the GasBuddy app, examining the top 30 metropolitan areas by population from Nov. 2018 to Feb. 2019, noting the frequency of an aggressive driving event.The data shows that no other city has a bigger need for speed than San Diego. According to Gas Buddy, San Diego drivers have 62% more speeding incidents than average US driver, followed by Orlando and Detroit. (KGTV) - The nearing Deferred Action for Childhood Act deadline is prompting artists to get their take immigrants' experiences out before the government’s decision.San Diego Border Dreamers hosted a fundraiser featuring all immigration-related art. More than 40 artists from around California donated various works for the show that was held at Bread and Salt in Barrio Logan.All proceeds from the artwork sold went the group and effort to get a clean DACA bill.“I hope with this we are able to enlighten people about our experience for those that are not fully aware what we go through,” said Dulce Garcia, a DACA recipient.  659
