This is a move to get people to buy local take-out, and picnic outdoors.Coronado also approved gyms to hold classes at Spreckels Park, Bradley Field, and the beach."We feel fortunate that we live in a town where we can just jump out into the park and do yoga," Stephanie Anderson with Island Yoga Coronado said.Tuesday, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer signed an Executive Order waiving permitting requirements for sidewalks and parking lots for restaurants expanding outdoors.On the same day, Chula Vista approved plans to block off car traffic on Third Avenue on weekend evenings. This will help diners expand their businesses onto the entire street, not just on sidewalks and parking lots. The Third Avenue Village Association will discuss details and the start date at a special meeting next Wednesday.On Wednesday, Poway approved its Shared Outside Spaces (SOS) program, which lets houses of worship and gyms to hold activities at city parks. The city began accepting applications Friday morning. The city says we could be seeing yoga classes at parks as early as Monday.Both local governments and businesses must stay nimble to fight through the pandemic."There is no quit in my team," Torres said. "Everyone has stepped up to the plate. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Days after revealing its move to downtown San Diego's Petco Park, KAABOO announced it's under new ownership.KAABOO's new owner, Virgin Fest, the music festival arm of The Virgin Group, will not change the festival's brand of live music, comedy, art, and culinary experiences, KAABOO said in a release.While Virgin Fest Founder and CEO Jason Felts has acquired all of the festival's assets, KAABOO San Diego itself will also not be rebranded. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Californians associate “The Big One” with a devastating earthquake, but U.S. Geological Survey experts say a potentially larger threat could hit the state in the form of an “ARkStorm.”SPECIAL REPORT: Complete coverage of California's winter stormsExperts from every scientific field related to a potentially disastrous weather event gathered in 2010 to create the ARkStorm Scenario report for the USGS, imagining aspects of flooding of biblical proportions reaching the Western United States.“These storms do pose a real risk to California, in some ways far greater than that of earthquakes,” experts said in the study.The ARkStorm Scenario report reads like a Hollywood post-apocalyptic film script. Weeks of rain and snow are followed by catastrophic floods, landslides, and property and infrastructure damage which would cripple California’s economy.While the name “ARk” brings to mind a lifeboat scenario, ARkStorm project manager Dale Cox and chief scientist Lucile Jones coined the abbreviation to represent “atmospheric river.” A common term for meteorologists, these rivers in the sky work like highways for water vapor which comes to a screeching halt when it reaches land.A typical atmospheric river is the Pineapple Express, which pushes moisture from the tropics to the West Coast. It was a Pineapple Express that reached San Diego on Valentine’s Day, bringing warmer rain and lower snow levels, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Alexander Tardy.RELATED: Mega storm could cause billions in damage to California, report showsModels in the ARkStorm report show multiple areas of submergence in central San Diego. Mission Beach, which routinely sees flooding during heavy rain, is underwater in the ARkStorm scenario. Fiesta Island, ordinarily dry, disappears under Mission Bay.West-facing beaches, including those near Highway 1 in North San Diego County, are covered in water. The same amount of precipitation predicted in the ARkStorm Scenario fell in 2017, says Cox. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Civil right activists and lawyers are hoping the court system can force San Diego County law enforcement agencies to change the way they deal with protests.On Thursday, a group of lawyers announced a half-dozen claims and lawsuits against the La Mesa Police Department, San Diego Police Department and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department for what they call unnecessary use of force during recent protests.Dante Pride represents four of the claimants, including Leslie Furcron, the woman hit in the head by a bean bag round fired during a protest outside La Mesa police headquarters on May 30.Pride said Furcron suffered multiple fractures in her face, has no vision in her left eye, has problems walking, has problems remembering, and difficulty with balance.RELATED: Woman shot with bean bag round in the face during La Mesa protest makes public statement"All because she decided to come out, as she is entitled to do, and protest," said Pride.Pride’s other clients have injuries ranging from broken fingers to severe cuts and contusions from being hit by what officers call "less lethal" rounds."The manner in which these things were used, shot indiscriminately into crowds, these are lethal methods being used," said Pride.Other claims stem from protests across the city in the days that followed.Gerald Singleton said his two clients are the "epitome" of peaceful protesters, who were simply standing in the crowd when they were hit by what he calls "rubber bullets.""Anybody who embraces this movement is, unfortunately, under the current police culture, viewed as an enemy, and they're treated accordingly,” Singleton said.RELATED: La Mesa woman hospitalized following protests, family saysThe claims ask for monetary damages to cover medical expenses.
