BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee recently held a forum to solicit opinions and suggestions from non-Communist personages on the documents of its latest plenary session held late last week.     CPC Central Committee General Secretary Hu Jintao briefed the leaders of the non-Communist parties, leaders of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and persons without party affiliation on what was considered when forming the document. He asked them to raise suggestions on its revision.     Some delegates made remarks, approving the summary made by the CPC Central Committee on the experiences of the 30 years of rural reform and development and supporting the guideline thinking, objectives, principles and measures of rural reform and development.     They raised suggestions on the overall plan of urban and rural development, farmland protection, grain security, spread of agricultural technology and rural financial system reform, as well as on deepening cross-Strait agricultural exchanges and cooperation and improving grassroots democracy.     After hearing the opinions, Hu said the suggestions were valuable and reflected the in-depth thinking of the participants. Relevant departments would conscientiously study and adopt them.     He added China was an agricultural country with the majority of its population in rural areas. Addressing issues on agriculture, the countryside and farmers would be taken as the fundamental work.     Since China launched its reform and opening up, the CPC Central Committee had held many plenary sessions to discuss agricultural and rural issues.     Facing new situations and tasks, the rural development system should be continually innovated, Hu said, adding rural reform remained the key to China's reform, and agriculture and rural development were still the strategic foundation of the country's development.     Promoting rural reform and development would bring the national economy and society into a new round of development, he added.     Hu asked the participants in the forum to contribute to the new socialist countryside construction by make in-depth study, identify and handle the protruding problems in rural reform and development in a timely manner, and raise relevant suggestions accordingly.     Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin and Xi Jinping, members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also attended the forum.     On Sunday, the CPC Central Committee approved a decision on major issues concerning rural reform and development at the close of a four-day meeting, such as doubling the income of rural residents, boosting their consumption by a big margin and basically eliminating absolute poverty in rural areas by 2020.

BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Finance said late Friday it allocated another 3.78 billion yuan (548 million U.S. dollars) in subsidies to help low-income families against the latest fuel price hikes announced a day earlier.     Of the total, 1.85 billion yuan will go to urban low-income families, and the rest will be offered to such families in rural areas, the ministry said.     Low-income families in cities would get an extra 15 yuan for each person every month starting from July, 10 yuan for rural families, according to the announcement on Thursday. BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The spacewalk performed by Chinese taikonauts Zhai Zhigang Saturday afternoon marks a major breakthrough in China's space program, Chinese President Hu Jintao said.     Hu talked with the trio taikonauts at the Beijing Aerospace Control Center for the Shenzhou-7 mission at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, when he inquired the physical conditions of the three taikonauts.     "Your country and your fellow citizens thank you for your devotion to the space program," he said.     He congratulated the trio over the success of the spacewalk, and encouraged them to continue the efforts for a "complete success.     Zhai Zhigang was assisted during the spacewalk by Liu Boming in the orbit module. China is the third country in the world to accomplish the feat after the United States and Russia. "How did you feel like in space?", President Hu asks spacewalker    Chinese President Hu Jintao asked Chinese taikonauts what it was like walking in space in a conversation with them after the trio successfully realized the country's first-ever space walk on Saturday.     "How did you feel like in space after exiting the module?" asked smiling Hu, who was talking on a phone that connected him at the Beijing Aerospace Control Center (BACC) with astronauts on the spacecraft Shenzhou-7.     "I felt superb," answered Zhai Zhigang, who carried out about 25 minutes of extra-vehicular activity (EVA) about 343 km above the earth after floating out of the Shenzhou-7 cabin on Saturday afternoon.     "The process of taking on the Feitian spacesuit went smooth," said Zhai, looking confident and radiant on the screen at the BACC. "In the vast space, I felt proud of our motherland."      Hu congratulated the astronauts on the successful feat and encouraged them to carry on efforts to fulfill the mission.     "The thing I most want to know is how are you feeling now and how is your work going," Hu asked the trio.     "We feel well," said Zhai. "We conducted the space scientific tests as planned and the EVA went smoothly."     Hu hailed the spacewalk as a sign of the country's progress in space scientific technology.     "You have made outstanding contribution to our country's space project," said Hu. "The country and the Chinese people are grateful to you."     At 4:43 p.m. (0843 GMT) on Saturday, Zhai slipped out of the orbital module of Shenzhou-7 in a head-out-first position, wearing a 4-million-U.S.dollar homemade Feitian space suit.     China's first-ever spacewalk marked a remarkable progress in the country's ambitious space program, which will eventually lead to the establishment of a permanent space station. BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Monday said the medical treatment and epidemic prevention tasks in the quake regions were still tough and no relaxation would be allowed.     Presiding over a quake relief meeting here, Wen urged bolstering the treatment of the injured to minimize fatalities and disability. All affected people in all counties, towns, villages and temporary settlements had been covered.     No concentrated epidemic outbreaks or emergent public health incidents had been reported, according to the meeting.     The 8.0-magnitude earthquake rocked the southwestern Sichuan Province and neighboring regions, including the northwestern Gansu and Shaanxi provinces on May 12. As of Monday noon, it had taken 69,142 lives, injured 374,065 people, left 17,551 missing and 46.25 million affected.     The meeting was also briefed on the quake relief work in Gansu and Shaanxi, which also suffered great losses.     It directed the two provinces to resume production in the affected areas at the earliest date possible and to rehabilitate the infrastructure.     The central government would provide support in policies, capital and material, the meeting said.

SARAJEVO, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- China and Bosnia pledged on Friday to strengthen cooperation between each other and push their relations to a higher level.     "China cherishes the traditional friendship with Bosnia, hopes to broaden political dialogues at different levels and deepen the exchange and cooperation in such fields as trade and lift the bilateral relations between the two countries to a higher level," visiting Chinese vice Premier Zhang Dejiang said.     Zhang made the comments in his meeting with rotating Chairman Haris Silajdzic of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Nebojsa Radmanovic, another member of the group made of three members.     "China regards Bosnia as a trust-worthy friend and partner, and we greatly appreciate Bosnia's stance on one-China policy and its support for China's great cause of peaceful unification with Taiwan," Zhang said.     Silajdzic congratulated China on successfully staging the 29th Beijing Olympic Games. He said that the opening ceremony of the games displayed Chinese long history and its splendid culture and it also showed China's desire for a harmonious world.
