SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting this week in Mountain View.Police said 39-year-old Jose Alfredo Castro-Gutierrez was shot and killed after officers responded to the 300 block of South Pardee Street just before 5 a.m. on Monday over reports of a violent disturbance involving a weapon.According to SDPD, Castro-Gutierrez was staying at a home as a guest when the residents were woken up by him. He had reportedly been acting paranoid and ripped a metal curtain rod from a window and began breaking windows and other objects in the home.RELATED: San Diego Police shoot, kill vandalism suspect in Mountain ViewWhen police arrived, they saw Castro-Gutierrez in the front window and could hear him breaking objects and yelling inside.SDPD says officers gave directions in English and Spanish to try and communicate with Castro-Gutierrez but got no response. Eventually, Castro-Gutierrez crawled out of a broken window and made his way to the front of the property where officers were.Police said Castro-Gutierrez began to run at full speed toward them with the metal pole, prompting three officers to fire their weapons at him: One officer fired a bean bag round, another officer fired a Taser, and a third officer fired several rounds from his service pistol, SDPD says.Castro-Gutierrez was hit by at least one round and fell to the ground. Officers started first aid at the scene, but Castro-Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the hospital.The officer who fired his service pistol was identified as Isai Castillo, a two-year veteran of SDPD assigned to Southeastern Division.SDPD's homicide unit is currently investigating the shooting, after which the San Diego County District Attorney's Office will review the case to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents wanting to take a hot shower at a La Jolla apartment complex could have to wait several days while crews work to repair a gas leak. The leak shut off hot water to three apartment buildings. Neighbors say they got a series of emails Saturday, one of them saying they wouldn’t have hot water for five to seven days. Residents say the issue is unacceptable. "I'm not getting in there, it's way too cold,” said Nick Imison. An email from his leasing company informed Imison he would be without hot water for about a week. Imison lives in the Regents La Jolla apartment complex. The email went on to say that their gas supply was shut off after crews found a gas leak. In the email, residents were told that if they need a shower during business hours, they need to stop by the office with an ID. “I was completely unacceptable for a complex that has about 600 units to just go hey yea you can come shower bring your id but it's only between the hours of nine and six,” Imison said. 10News reached out to the leasing company via email but have not heard back. In the email sent to residents, the company cites the need for several city and SDG&E required inspections before they can turn the gas back on. 1242

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego Police are investigating a reported scam that seems to be targeting the elderly.Frank Dabalack says someone knocked on his door Monday at noon, claiming they could fix a dent on the back of his car for 5.  “I’ve wanted it fixed for a long time and here’s a guy who came over, it looked like he knew what he was doing,” Dabalack said.But once he agreed and the man and his crew began work the price kept jumping to nearly 0.“I was angry with myself,” Dabalack said, “because I knew it was scam, and I’d been scammed.”He found out with the help of his neighbor, who he asked to come over.  She took a closer look at the men’s repair work. She says they were damaging the car instead of fixing it. They covered the back of the car with some gooey residue but never touched the dent.  One of the men also took pliers to the grill and started bending it out of shape.When she started asking them questions, they took off. Dabalack says he wrote them a check for 5 but was able to cancel it with his bank.Martinez said when police arrived, they said they were familiar with the scam. The men look for handicapped plates on cars in driveways and try to trick the owners into paying large amounts of money.“Frank is from a generation where people kept their word, not scammed the elderly,” Martinez said. “Frank is like a dad to me. I don’t like anyone doing that to him or any senior.”  1445

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have released video footage of an officer-involved shooting involving a man who was arrested and reportedly stole a gun out of an officer's backpack Sunday.The footage includes bodycam video from officers inside the police station's sally port, as well as surveillance footage of the parking area.Police say a 25-year-old Hispanic man, later identified as Keith Bergman, was arrested shortly after 6:20 p.m. after an incident at a downtown San Diego hotel on Sunday. A hotel security guard reported the man was “acting strange” and threatening others.Bergman was evaluated for being under the influence and arrested, according to SDPD. Police say they found methamphetamine and five credit cards that didn't belong to him in his pockets.See the video in the player above (If the video doesn't appear below, click here)Officers brought Bergman to SDPD headquarters. Just after 8 p.m., police said the suspect somehow freed one hand from his handcuffs while inside the patrol SUV, and then broke a divider that separates the prisoner seat area from the cargo area.Police said Bergman found an officer’s backpack that contained a backup handgun. When officers returned to check on the suspect, he was still in the vehicle but armed with a gun, according to SDPD.Officers drew their weapons and gave Bergman verbal commands to drop the weapon, but he refused and fired at least one round from the gun, police said.The officers felt threatened, police said, and at least one round was fired at Bergman, hitting him in the torso.Bergman reached out of the vehicle's window and opened the door to exit while he was still armed, police said, adding that he tried to open the rear cargo compartment of the SUV and the driver's door, refusing orders to stop in the process.RELATED: San Diego Police: Suspect shot by officers after finding officer's gun in patrol SUVPolice eventually released a service dog to subdue Bergman, and police moved in to arrest him.Officers provided first aid at the scene and Bergman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to SDPD.San Diego Police also identified the three officers involved in the shooting as Paul Yi, a six-year veteran of the department, Michael Rodriguez, who has been with the department for 10 months, and Timothy Arreola, an eight-year veteran of the department. After the department's Homicide Unit completes its investigation, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office will look at the incident to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability for their actions. The Internal Affairs Unit will also conduct an investigation, and the Shooting Review Board will evaluate the tactics used by the officers. The Community Review Board on Police Practices will conduct a review of the incident and provide any appropriate recommendations. The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the United States Attorney’s Office will also monitor the investigation. 2982
