BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama issued the China-U.S. Joint Statement here Tuesday, expressing the hope that the multilateral mechanism of the Six Party Talks would convene at an early date. The two presidents reaffirmed in the joint statement the importance of continuing the Six Party Talks process and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The joint statement said the two sides will work together with other parties concerned to comprehensively achieve the purpose and overall goal of the Six Party Talks through consultations and dialogues. "The Chinese side welcomed the start of high-level contacts between the United States and the DPRK," said the joint statement.
BEIJING, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- More than 45 million people from both home and abroad have visited Tian'anmen Rostrum, a landmark structure in the heart of Chinese capital, in the past 21 years after it was opened to the public. "In 2009 alone, the rostrum received more than 2.16 million visitors," said Lin Bingkui, of the rostrum administration department. The rostrum, or the Gate of Heavenly Peace built in 1417, stands to the north of Tian'anmen Square and south of the renowned Forbidden City, the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). It was on the Tian'anmen Rostrum where Chairman Mao Zedong formally proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China on Oct. 1, 1949. The rostrum was opened to the public for the first time on Jan.1, 1988. Thousands of tourists use the rostrum as a background while taking photos every day.
SANAA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese military vessel arrived in the Aden port Saturday on a goodwill official visit for the coming several days, official SABA news agency reported. The Chinese military vessel, named Chan Dokouh, is affiliated with the Chinese naval fleet now cruising in the international waters, SANA said. The military ship and its crew were received by a number of senior Yemeni military and security officials at the southern military naval base in Aden, said the report. The visit of the Chinese military vessel to Aden port came as part of the joint bilateral cooperation between Yemen and China, particularly in fighting terrorism, counter-smuggling, combating piracy and ensuring safety of navigation through international waterways, added the report.

Wen made the remarks in his meeting with a group of EU diplomats including former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin and Hungary's ex-Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy, who were here to attend a China-EU forum. The Belgian prime minister was unanimously elected on Thursday as the first full-time EU president and Britain's EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton as EU foreign policy chief. "As a strategic partner of the EU, China congratulates the leaders elected and feels glad for that," Wen said. Calling EU as an important pole of the world, Wen said the EU integration would help the 27-nation bloc to play greater role in international affairs. He called for courage and insight of political figures of both sides, as well as support from various circles of the society to deepen China-EU relations. "The Chinese government is ready to cement trust and deepen cooperation with EU to promote bilateral all-round strategic partnership," he added. Some of the EU representatives told Wen both the EU and China shoulder great responsibilities in the world globalization. The two sides should not only properly settle issues in bilateral ties but also jointly respond to major global challenges such as climate change.
