President Donald Trump has pardoned prisoner activist Jon Ponder, who spent time in prison for bank robbery. Ponder has helmed the Las Vegas-based organization HOPE for Prisoners for the last 15 years.Richard Beasley, a retired FBI agent who arrested Ponder, stood alongside Trump and Ponder during the pardon.Trump has previously been involved with HOPE for Prisoners. In February, Trump visited Las Vegas and met with 30 members of the program.Ponder said in February that his organization has helped 3,000 formerly incarcerated people back into the workforce.Trump has used pardons and clemencies sparingly during his tenure. Trump has handed 26 pardons and 11 clemencies during his time in office. In President Obama's tenure, the president issued 212 pardons and 1,715 clemencies, although the vast majority of those came in Obama's final year in office. During George W. President Donald Trump has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize by a Norwegian member of parliament known for his views against immigration, Fox News, The Independent and The Daily Beast report.According to Fox News, Trump was nominated for the prize by Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a member of the Norwegian Parliament, for his work in attempting to bring peace between Israel and the United Arab Emirates."For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees," Tybring-Gjedde said during an interview on Fox News. While the number of Nobel Peace Prize nominees varies from year to year, more than 300 people and organizations are nominated for the 2020 prize. Trump himself was nominated for the prize in 2018 for organizing a summit with North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un. Tybring-Gjedde was among those who also submitted that nomination.According to The Daily Beast, Tybring-Gjedde is staunchly against immigration and is known for making controversial statements about Muslims. He's previously compared hijabs, the face coverings worn by Muslim women, to robes worn by KKK members.Israel and the UAE agreed to normalize relations on Aug. 13. Later that month, Trump adviser Jared Kushner joined Israeli and UAE officials aboard a plane that marked the first commercial flight between the countries. While normalizing relations was a significant step for the countries, significant questions about the deal remain — particularly, the UAE's ongoing relationship with Palestine.Four previous presidents — Barack Obama, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter — have been granted the Nobel Peace Prize.Trump has publicly campaigned for the award in the past. At a rally in Toledo earlier this year, Trump insinuated that he deserved the award. 1830

President Donald Trump isn't letting up on pushing false claims about the 2020 election, even after the Electoral College upheld president-elect Joe Biden's win on Monday. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, Trump took to Twitter to spread more disinformation about voting systems and unsubstantiated voter fraud claims. The flood of misinformation forced Twitter to apply seven warning labels about election security to seven tweets or retweets from the president. The Electoral College's vote on Monday to seal Biden's win in the 2020 election gives Trump little recourse to further challenge the results. The Supreme Court has already rejected several lawsuits brought by the Trump campaign, and with Electoral Votes cast, the election is now out of the hands of the states which counted the votes. In a speech delivered Monday following the Electoral College vote, Biden delivered his most pointed criticism of Trump's continued election denialism yet. He described one lawsuit — in which Conservative-leaning states sued other battleground states in an attempt to overturn the results of the election — as "so extreme, we've never seen it before, a position that refused to respect the will of the people, refused to respect the rule of law, and refused to honor our Constitution.""Thankfully, a unanimous Supreme Court immediately and completely rejected this effort," Biden said. "The court sent a clear signal to President Trump that they would be no part of an unprecedented assault on our democracy."With election results sealed, the attention now turns to Jan. 20 — Inauguration Day.Earlier this month, Trump said he would leave the White House if the Electoral College declared Biden the winner. However, it's unclear if he will greet Biden at the White House on Inauguration Day, as is tradition. When asked by Fox News on Saturday if he planned to attend Biden's Inauguration, Trump simply said he "didn't want to talk about that." 1952

President Donald Trump returned to the Oval Office on Wednesday for the first time in five days following his three-day stay in Walter Reed Medical Center. Trump was released from the hospital on Monday. On Wednesday, Trump released a video statement on Twitter to reassure Americans he is feeling well. Despite complications from the coronavirus late last week, which included a high fever and low oxygen levels, the president said that his coronavirus infection was a “blessing from God.”While the president may still be contagious from the virus, there are questions on when the president first tested positive for the virus, and when his last negative test was. Knowing when the president first contracted the virus is important as those with the virus are still considered contagious 10 days after the onset of the virus, according to the CDC.“I wasn’t feeling so hot,” Trump said. “And within a very short period of time, they gave me Regneron… It was like unbelievable.”The Regeneron treatment is formally known as "REGN-COV2," and is an experimental drug that has only been trialed on 275 patients before the president’s infection. The treatment is a combination of two monoclonal and was designed specifically to block infectivity of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, the company said. REGN-COV2 is still early in its trial process to test for efficacy and side effects. “I want everyone to get the same treatment as your president, because I feel great,” Trump said. “I feel like perfect. I think this was a blessing from God that I got it.”Trump went on to blame China for the spread of the virus, and said he wanted to make treatments free to Americans. 1682
