And that includes a local pilot, who helping those workers, that help him to get off the ground. Anthony Oshinuga became interested in becoming a pilot when he was 5-years old, and now he's a veteran of the air. Anthony's need for speed and adrenaline led him to racing and performing aerobatics. But he calls his latest piloting adventure, his most rewarding. Flying his own biplane, he traveled across in the country for a campaign he calls, "Reach for the sky...we've got the ground"."Essentially, what that means, is for the support crew that is on the ground at each airport we visited. We delivered a COVID-19 relief package that had face masks, hand sanitizer, and then we gave them a mug to say thank you. We appreciate what you are doing."It was quite a trip for the Valley Center resident, as his flight included 44 stops in 22 locations."My sponsor, Epic Fuel,s, put together this campaign that covered six thousand nautical miles, in my biplane, traveling about 160 miles per hour, " says Anthony. His trip was about giving thanks to airport employees."We have people at the airport, like the guys who fuel the trucks, and those workers who greet people coming off private jets. There are interactions and contact with these people all the time, and we don't think about that."And along his journey, he was able to visit with young kids, and maybe inspire them to become pilots one day. "There were a few stops along the way where people got word of me stopping in. A bunch of kids came out that were S.T.E.M motivated. They were students going through the engineering program, and I got the opportunity to meet them and speak to them, and just to inspire them."It was definitely a trip of a lifetime."Flown six thousand miles with that message, and making it out pretty good right." 1942

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Following several years of record-breaking fires around California, the state’s department of insurance is letting residents know they have options if their insurance gets dropped. Under Proposition 103, a law approved by voters in 1988, insurers are required to file rate changes with the California Department of Insurance. Although the department doesn’t set rates, state law requires that insurers’ rates are based on a demonstrated risk of loss. New laws that both took effect in 2019 also offer some protection. One of the laws specifies that homeowners living in a declared wildfire disaster area or adjacent zip codes receive one year of protection from non-renewal. The state also extended protections against non-renewal for people who suffer a total loss during a fire to two automatic renewals or 24 months. If you find yourself in the middle of a non-renewal, the department lists specific rights California residents have: The notice of non-renewal must be sent at least 45 days prior to policy expiration. That notice of non-renewal must contain: (1) the reason or reasons for the non-renewal; (2) the telephone number of the insurer's representatives who handle consumer inquiries or complaints; and (3) a statement indicating that if the consumer has contacted the insurer to discuss the non-renewal and remains unsatisfied, the policyholder may have the matter reviewed by the Department. The insurance company must determine whether to renew or non-renew based upon its underwriting guidelines, which must be objective, have a substantial relationship to the risk of loss, and be applied consistently among insureds in the particular group being non-renewed.For anyone who can’t find insurance, the department has another option. The FAIR plan is available to all homeowners as a last option for coverage. The maximum limit written by the plan on residential property is ,500,000. According to the department, insurance companies use different tools and maps to determine high-risk areas around the state. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dozens of voters were left off the roster at a San Diego County polling place on Election Day, leading to frustration and delays.The problem was reported Tuesday morning at Pacific Trails Middle School at 5975 Village Center Loop Rd in Carmel Valley.Poll workers received an incomplete roster which omitted 46 names, Registrar of Voters Michael Vu confirmed. The list was missing two and a half pages.YOUR VOICE YOUR VOTE: 10News?Election CoverageVoters waited for voting officials to reprint another roster and deliver it to the polling place.Officials tried to ease the long line by calling the Registrar of Voters and getting approval for each person over the phone, a voter told 10News.Voters also had the option of voting provisionally, but many of them declined, telling 10News they wanted their votes to count. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Family and friends of Sabrina Rosario gathered Saturday night for a memorial service to honor her and her four boys. Rosario and her boys were killed by her estranged husband, the children's father, last month. The boys: Enzi, 3, Zuriel, 5, Ezekiel, 9 and Zeth, 11. Rosario was 29-years-old. RELATED: Fourth boy dies following murder-suicide in Paradise HillsRosario's mother, Gloria Collins, said the night was meant to be a celebration for her daughter and grandchildren. Collins says her daughter was brave and beautiful and she finds comfort in knowing she's in a better place. Roughly 400 people filled the church in Paradise Hills for the memorial. Pictures and flowers filled the front of the room. The service included prayer, singing and stories of Rosario and the boys. Rosario had been granted a restraining order from her estranged husband just hours before she was killed, but that order was never served. 947

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of people packed the stands at the Coronado High School football field Friday, for a celebration of life in honor of Justin Meek.The Coronado High School graduate was one of the 12 people killed at the Thousand Oaks shooting on Nov. 7.The 23-year-old is remembered as a hometown hero, as he died helping protect others from the gunman’s bullets.RELATED: Coronado native among victims of the Thousand Oaks bar shootingMeek moved to Thousand Oaks to attend California Lutheran University. He worked at the Borderline Bar and Grill. Though he often worked as a security guard, the night of the shooting, he and his sister were working as promoters for ‘College Night’ events. When the gunshots started, Justin began helping people get out of harm's way. He was shielding them from gunfire when he was shot and killed. His sister made it out of the bar. The Meek family released a written statement that described Justin’s strong interest in the safety of others since Sept. 11. After college, Meek's family said he wanted to join the Coast Guard and then go on to become a U.S. Marshall. Meek’s mother served in the Air Force, his father served in the Navy, and he too felt a strong call to service.“Justin was a genuine, kind, loving, caring, compassionate, hardworking, talented man and a friend to everyone he met,” the statement reads. “He was a loving son, protective brother, and hero to all.”There is a paddle out for Meek on Saturday morning.
