SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Years of emails and persistence finally paid off for a Del Cerro man whose sister died while crossing the street five years ago. Vahid Hamzavi's sister, Mina, was killed while crossing the street at the intersection of Navajo Road and Margerum Avenue. There are crossing signs and buttons, but no designated, marked crosswalk. Hamzavi started asking for a crosswalk at the deadly intersection in 2016. In February, he reached out to 10News because nothing had been done. City Councilmember Scott Sherman's office told us there would be a crosswalk installed by March or April, but still nothing. Last week, Hamzavi called the councilmember's office again. Sherman's office told him they expedited the work order with the Department of Transportation and Storm Water and that the crosswalk would be in place by Friday. On Monday, crews were already out measuring and outlining the design for the crosswalk. The work is expected to be complete on Tuesday.Hamzavi says the wait was worth it and he hopes the intersection will now be safer for those walking in the neighborhood.  1153

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Uber Eats will begin testing a new service that will deliver food using drones in San Diego, the company announced Wednesday. Uber and San Diego were granted the winning bid by the Federal Aviation Administration last year to test the new delivery service, according to the company. Here’s how Uber says the system will work: After a restaurant loads the meal into the drone and the drone takes off, a system will notify a nearby Uber Eats delivery partner to meet the drone at a drop-off location. The orders will then be picked up and hand-delivered to customers. The company says the initial phase of testing in San Diego was done with McDonald’s, but that it will be expanded later this year to include more restaurants, including Juniper and Ivy. “We’ve been working closely with the FAA to ensure that we’re meeting requirements and prioritizing safety,” said Luke Fischer, Head of Flight Operations at Uber Elevate. “From there, our goal is to expand Uber Eats drone delivery so we can provide more options to more people at the tap of a button. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With a shortened and fanless baseball season underway, there is still confusion and legal challenges over refunds for tickets.Sydnie Gallegos lives in San Diego, but she is a loyal Dodgers fan. Every year, she and moe than a dozen of her family members see a game live at Dodgers Stadium. “We do it once a year, every year, for the last six years,” Gallegos said.Gallegos, like so many others, were left in the dark wondering what to do about tickets they bought.Her family bought tickets to a July 4th game back in March. “It was for 15 of me and my family members. That’s over ,400 just in tickets,” Gallegos said.Although Major League Baseball announced refund policies in April, Gallegos said they didn’t hear anything until July. They received an email from the Dodgers, offering ticketholders “with an account credit for all 2020 tickets and parking (plus applicable fees).”The team also added a 10 percent bonus credit, which could be applied for the 2021 season. A spokesperson for the Padres also said they’re also offering fans a refund or use their credit towards the 2021 season.Despite refunds now being issued to fans, a class action lawsuit over the issue continues. Several ticket buyers sued Major League Baseball, the teams, as well as StubHub, Ticketmaster, and Live Nation. The attorneys for the plaintiffs said they are still moving forward with the lawsuit because they “continue to pursue their claims so that each ticket purchaser for the MLB 2020 season will receive a full refund as soon as possible.”“As the season will have no fan attendance, Defendants have no reason to keep any of the ticket purchasers’ money,” attorney Blake Yagman wrote to Team 10. 1712
