ELOY, Arizona — A 70-year-old Oklahoma man is behind bars after an Eloy, Arizona police officer found a dead body in his car during a traffic stop. Authorities say the officer stopped Rodney Puckett in the area of Toltec Road along Interstate 10 on Monday. While the officer was talking to Puckett, he noticed the body of a dead woman sitting in the passenger seat. Police say the woman was identified as Rodney’s wife, 74-year-old Linda Puckett. Rodney told investigators Linda died at a hotel in Texas during the couple’s road trip. He said he moved her body into the car and continued to their destination. The couple, who married in 2011, were divorcing. Linda was issued a protective order from her husband on Feb. 6 and it was continued Monday, records show. Linda filed for divorce on Feb. 8.In another connection, Rodney was reported missing in April, but the Silver Alert for him was canceled once it was found he had not been heard from because he was in a Kansas jail. The Silver Alert said he has bipolar disorder.Linda’s body was turned over to the Pinal County Medical Examiner to determine cause of death, police said. The Eloy Police Department is working with Texas authorities to determine if Linda's death was a result of homicide. Rodney was booked into Pinal County Jail for abandonment or concealment of a body. Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed later. 1428
DENVER, Colo. – Buying a Christmas tree can represent the start of the holiday season. But trees can be expensive. If you want it to last until the big day, there are simple steps to take when buying the perfect tree.Doug Brown is the owner of Reindeer Ranch in Denver, Colorado. He’s been selling Christmas trees since 1997. So, he knows a thing or two about what type of Christmas tree lasts the longest.Brown says, "the noble firs and the Fraser firs tend to be the Cadillacs of trees. Those are going to be the ones that give you the best look and the most longevity."When picking a tree on the lot, Brown suggests doing the touch and smell test. If no needles fall off and it smells like pine, it’s a healthy tree.As for the price of the tree, this year you might be paying a little extra.Brown says, “we are in a tree shortage right now." That means the demand outweighs the supply. Before you leave the lot, make sure you get a fresh cut on the bottom of your tree. That way it soaks up all the water when you bring it home.Once your home Brown says, "get it into your stand and put water in it right away no longer than 6 to 8 hours."Make sure to check the water daily. A tree drinks about a gallon of water a day. Also, never place your tree next to a vent, fireplace or window because that will dry out the tree. There’s also no need to put fertilizer or Miracle Grow in the water.Brown says, if you follow these simple tips, you and your loved ones will be enjoying your perfect tree the entire holiday season.Brown is not only selling trees this year. He is also holding a toy drive too. On Saturday, December 14, they will be giving away 200 toys to families in need. The toy drive starts at 10 a.m. 1723
Deputies in Florida say a worker fatally stabbed his Trump-supporting boss at a highway construction site and placed an American flag next to the body after they got into an argument. Mason Toney was charged with first-degree murder for the killing of William Knight on Monday. Co-workers told investigators with the Orange County Sheriff's Office that Toney and Knight were friends despite their political differences. The arrest affidavit says co-workers described Knight as “pro-Donald Trump," while co-workers described Toney as “anti-government." An arrest affidavit says Toney jumped in a truck and took off after the stabbing. He was apprehended several hours later.According to the 702
Despite it being an "off year" for federal elections, a grass roots effort to register new voters netted 400,000 citizens to register to vote last week. According to organizers of the effort, last Tuesday's effort shattered a record for it being an off year by nearly three times. The drive included more than 4,000 groups nationwide, which used partners such as Facebook, the United Way and the League of Women Voters to assist. Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leann Rimes, Michelle Obama and Newt Gingrich were among those who encouraged people to register vote."We are encouraged by the level of engagement this local election year," said Lindsay Torrico, United Way Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy and National Voter Registration Day Steering Committee member. "We are hopeful that this year's success is a preview of what's to come in 2020."Although federal elections will not be held this year -- except in three congressional districts due to mid-term vacancies -- many areas will hold local, county and state elections next month. If you're not yet registered to vote, there is still time to register before next month's elections. Domino's Pizza announced on Monday that it is partnering with robotics company Nuro to create a pizza delivery vehicle that is autonomous. The unmaned vehicle known as R2 will begin delivering pizzas later this year as part of a test. Domino's said it is rolling out the technology at select locations in the Houston area. Customers in the select areas will be given the option of having their pizza delivered by R2. They will then be given a pin to unlock the pizza from a compartment. Customers can also track the location of the R2 using Domino's smartphone app. "We are always looking for new ways to innovate and evolve the delivery experience for our customers," said Kevin Vasconi, Domino's executive vice president and chief information officer. "Nuro's vehicles are specially designed to optimize the food delivery experience, which makes them a valuable partner in our autonomous vehicle journey. The opportunity to bring our customers the choice of an unmanned delivery experience, and our operators an additional delivery solution during a busy store rush, is an important part of our autonomous vehicle testing."Nuro said it has raised more than billion from investors to deliver goods from a number of local businesses, including grocery stores, restaurants and dry cleaners. 1305
