BUCKEYE, Arizona — The pundits, politicians and political analysts have made clear what they think of post-election transition the country is enduring, but what do typical Americans think?To find out, we traveled to Buckeye, Arizona to meet with up with a group of retirees who actively watch the political process, but are far from any polished pundit. They are diverse and consist of new voters who voted Donald Trump for the first time as well as former Republicans who switched to Joe Biden this election.“I think if we don’t discuss it, we can never heal,” Rosanna Gallagher, a Biden supporter, said as she hosted a socially distanced conversation on her back porch.Marty Paulson and Chris Halsey are two Trump supporters not afraid to share their thoughts.“I accept that Joe Biden will be president,” Paulson said disappointingly.Halsey is more reluctant.“Not until he concedes is the election over,” Halsey insisted to the group.“That doesn’t mean squat,” Richard Westermann, a Biden voter, said in response.Different SourcesOne thing you learn quickly when observing this group is their opinions are based on what they read.“I read everything I can,” Gallagher said.Gallagher, like the other Biden supporters here, trusts traditional news outlets like CNN, ABC, CBS or NBC.Paulson and Halsey feel differently.“You believe your source,” Paulson said.Paulson and Halsey tend to watch sources beyond the traditional channels on your cable provider.“I stopped watching Fox News 6-8 months ago,” Paulson said, commenting on the fact he doesn’t believe it's are conservative enough.Paulson and Halsey acknowledged they find themselves watching OANN, a far-right cable channel with the support of Trump, more often.COVID RESPONSEBecause the group has different sources, they obviously have different views of the world.“COVID is big on my mind,” Westermann said, commenting on what President-elect Biden needs to do first.Paulson and Halsey suggested how they differ.“If I get COVID, I would want to take hydroxychloroquine,” Halsey said about the treatment that the FDA stopped allowing doctors to prescribe outside of a clinical setting.“Do you believe in COVID?,” Gallagher asked Paulson sarcastically.“You going to shut down the entire economy for this,” Paulson said in response.“Nobody is saying that, this has never happened before,” Westermann said to Paulson, who he golfs with on a regular basis.TRANSITION AND ADVICE“I feel there is turmoil,” Gallagher said when asked about the current presidential transition.“We haven’t had peace all year,” Halsey said in response.“I don’t think there is turmoil going on,” Paulson said.But can Biden win over voters like Halsey and Paulson?“Is there anything he can do? Stop all this hatefulness,” Halsey said.The problem? The only area this group agrees is that the divisions are here to stay.“I don’t think the divisions are going to away one way or another,” Paulson said.“It’s never going to be solved, never,” Westermann said in agreement.One takeaway is this group never yelled or stormed out of the backyard upset. Everyone listened to each other, respectfully, and perhaps that’s the biggest lesson this country needs today.“I think it’s good to get someone else’s opinion, just don’t make it personal,” Westermann said. 3286

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has been sentenced to serve five years in prison after being convicted of illegal poaching in a decades-old case, prosecutors said Thursday.Bhawani Singh, a public prosecutor working on the case, told reporters outside the court that Khan can appeal the decision to a higher court. If Khan's appeal is accepted, he could be granted bail or have his sentence suspended.Khan, one of India's most recognizable and bankable actors, was found guilty of killing two blackbucks, a type of antelope found in the country, while working on a film in the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan in the 1998. BUCKEYE, Arizona — Remains found?in?early March in a field are those of 10-year-old Jesse Wilson, who disappeared from his family home in July 2016.FULL COVERAGE: Search for Jesse WilsonBuckeye police said Tuesday that a forensic analysis of skeletal remains found March 8 by a city worker near State Route 85 and Broadway Road confirmed it was the body of Wilson."The Buckeye Police Department, along with our state and federal partners, will continue to pursue this investigation until its conclusion," Buckeye police said in a Facebook post. "We believe this case will be resolved as Jesse deserves nothing less."Wilson disappeared July 18, 2016 from his family's Buckeye home. A massive community effort ensued, as neighbors spent endless hours searching for the boy.Wilson's mother, Crystal, initially contacted the Buckeye Police Department's non-emergency line in the early morning hours of July 18, saying her son had slipped out of their home.Similar incidents involving Jesse and his siblings were uncovered, including an incident in April 2016, when Buckeye police responded to the family's neighborhood after Jesse was found in a neighbor's yard.ABC15 also discovered 2011 reports from Avondale police, who were called to Crystal Wilson's home after receiving reports that her five children were being abused and underfed. Responding officers checked the children for injuries and determined they were fed and there was no evidence of abuse. Neighbors who lived near the Wilson's in Avondale told ABC15 the children were often seen knocking on doors asking for food.Police said Tuesday that their investigation into Jesse's death is continuing. Both houses of Congress passed a nearly 5,600-page bill late Monday night; the COVID relief package was combined with a massive .4 trillion government spending bill to keep federal agencies funded for the next fiscal year and set government priorities.The relief package contains stimulus checks up to 0 for individuals, help for small businesses and for renters. But the bill overall also contains funding for two Smithsonian museums, a statement on the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama and extending tax breaks for NASCAR racing in addition to other government priorities.Here are a few programs listed in the bill:Climate: Several smaller bills having to do with climate change and renewable energy were wrapped in the government spending bill and relief package. Including: cutting the use of hydrofluorocarbons used in air conditioners and refrigerators, new research and development programs for solar, wind and energy storage, funding for energy efficiency projects, upgrades to the electric grid and commitment to researching removing carbon from the atmosphere, according to the Washington Post.Around million is being made available for the Secretary of Agriculture to conduct a pilot program giving financial assistance to “rural communities to further develop renewable energy.”Overall, Congress is sending a message that America should make renewable energies a priority.“It is the sense of Congress that in order to reduce emissions and meet 100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable, or zero emission energy sources while maintaining United States leadership in science and technology, the Secretary of Energy must prioritize funding for critical fundamental research infrastructure and for basic research and development activities carried out through the Office of Science,” the bill states.Flexible Spending Accounts: The bill will allow parents to carry over any unused childcare and healthcare funds they had in a flexible spending account into next year. Money put into an FSA typically has to be spent that year, but with daycare facilities closed due to the pandemic and many health care visits postponed, this money went unspent for some people.Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act: The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority will be able to come up with and implement horse and racetrack safety standards at a national level, according to FOX News. This would include things like barring horses involved in racing from receiving pain killers. Measures from the authority would be overseen by the Federal Trade Commission and enforced by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency."Among the required elements of the horseracing safety program are sets of training and racing safety standards consistent with the humane treatment of horses, a system to maintain track surface quality, programs for injury and fatality analysis, investigation and disciplinary procedures, and an evaluation and accreditation program," the bill says.NASCAR: Tax breaks for auto-racing tracks, like those used for NASCAR, were set to expire at the end of the year. The bill will extend them.Pakistan: At least million is being set aside for programs in Pakistan, broken down as “not less than ,000,000 shall be made available for democracy programs and not less than ,000,000 shall be made available for gender programs.” Although there are not a lot of details in the bill itself, gender equality is a component for development of Pakistan, according to the United Nations Population Fund.Smithsonian museums: The government bill sets aside funding for two new Smithsonian museums; American Women’s History Museum and National Museum of the American Latino.“A comprehensive women’s history museum would document the full spectrum of the experiences of women in the United States, represent a diverse range of viewpoints, experiences, and backgrounds, more accurately depict the history of the United States, and add value to the Smithsonian Institution,” the bill states in establishing the new Women’s History Museum.The National Museum of the American Latino will help visitors “to learn about Latino contributions to life, art, history, and culture in the United States.”Tibet and the Dalai Lama: The bill sets out the objectives of the special coordinator for Tibetan issues, to “promote substantive dialogue without preconditions, between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Dalai Lama … that leads to a negotiated agreement on Tibet.” Also to coordinate with other countries to this end, and to promote the human rights of the Tibetan people.It also states this representative of the U.S. should ensure that the identification and installation of any future Dalai Lama be determined by the Tibetan Buddhist faith community. There has been controversy recently because China has inserted itself in the selection process over who the next leader of the Buddhist faith should be. In 2019, China said the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama must “comply with Chinese laws and regulations.”The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, issued a statement in 2011 explaining the traditions of the selection of Dalai Lamas, including reincarnation.Many members of Congress expressed concern at the lack of time given to read the massive bill before voting on it.
