SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police spent several hours Sunday trying to talk a man down after he climbed Belmont Park's Giant Dipper roller coaster and refused to come down.Police said officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel were called just before 1:30 p.m. to reports of an 18-year-old male who had climbed the amusement park's fence and up to the top of the coaster. SDPD's Psychiatric Emergency Response Team spent several hours trying to talk the man down.The man came down from the roller coaster around 7:45 p.m., before grabbing a tarp and making his way back up. Shortly after 8:30 p.m., he crossed over to a nearby roof. Sharp said Tuesday that it was temporarily closing its La Mesa West and Point Loma locations beginning Thursday, March 26. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police said a man who was trying to sell basketball tickets Friday robbed a victim near San Diego State University as the NCAA basketball tournament was underway.The robbery happened about 11 a.m. in the east alley of 5100 College Ave., police said. The location is behind the ARCO gas station at the corner of Montezuma Rd.Officers said the suspect stole the victim’s money and may have been carrying a small knife. The victim was not hurt.The suspect ran toward the Aztec Student Union and was last seen near Campanile Drive.Police said the suspect is a black man in his late teens, about six-feet tall and 120 pounds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld San Diego's next thrill ride has been given the all clear by the state.The California Coastal Commission Wednesday approved the park's request for a dive coaster called Mako, set to open at the park next year. The roller coaster is already being billed as the "tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster in California," and the only floorless dive coaster in the state.The San Diego City Council gave the 153-foot ride unanimous approval last April, allowing SeaWorld to exceed the city's 30-foot height limitation in coastal zones.RELATED: SeaWorld San Diego brings back its popular annual SoCal PassSeaWorld says construction on Mako should begin in the next few months.The ride, announced in January, will be constructed by Switzerland-based Bollinger & Mabillard.
