SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Mountain View last month.Police say 81-year-old Ruben Mendez was walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of South 45th St. and Logan Ave. on June 30 just before 7:30 p.m. An unknown, silver-colored vehicle was turning left onto Logan Ave. when it collided with Mendez. The vehicle then headed eastbound in the 4700 block of Logan Ave., police say.The vehicle did not stop to check on Mendez before fleeing the scene, police added.Mendez sustained major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric is asking state regulators for permission to rebalance electricity rates next year in a way that would lower bills for customers during the summer but keep annual costs about the same.Currently, SDG&E customers pay a few cents more per kilowatt hour during the summer compared to winter rates. The seasonal pricing is designed to promote energy conservation in the summer when demand is highest, but it has also sparked complaints about high bills, particularly last year.In response to the complaints, the utility is proposing flat rates year-round, said SDG&E communications manager Wes Jones. "Simply put, we're trying to benefit our customers," Jones said. "We recognize they need a lot of power in the summertime to cool their homes."The new year-round structure would lower bills during the summer but result in higher winter bills than customers currently pay.Jones said reducing price volatility will help families budget for household energy expenses and mitigate summer sticker shock.The proposal would apply to all residential customers, including Time-of-Use, non-Time-of-Use and electric vehicle pricing plans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County was officially added to California's "monitoring list" as the number of coronavirus cases across the state increases, and Gov. Gavin Newsom said he expected local health officials to comply with specific orders that include the closure of indoor dining spaces.As of Monday afternoon, San Diego County joined five other counties on the monitoring list. The other counties added to the list: Colusa, Madera, Marin, Merced, and Monterey.Of the state’s 58 counties, 23 of them are on the state’s list.Ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, Newsom ordered counties that have been on the list for at least three days to shutter indoor operations at businesses such as restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, zoos, museums and cardrooms.In a tweet on his Twitter account, Newsom said:"CA is now asking Colusa, Madera, Marin, Merced, Monterey & San Diego to close indoor operations for:-Restaurants-Wineries-Movie theaters-Zoos, museums-CardroomsBars must close ALL operations."During his Monday news conference, Newsom said he was awaiting an order from local health officials in each of the newly-added counties to issue an order enacting the measures, which are expected to remain in effect for at least three weeks.Counties on the list were also ordered to close all of its bars, a move San Diego County had already taken ahead of the holiday weekend.
