A man in Haines City, Florida, was arrested Saturday after allegedly stealing a piece of construction equipment and taking Joe Biden campaign signs out of the yards in a local neighborhood, according to NBC News, The Associated Press and The Washington Post.James Blight, 26, was arrested Saturday and charged with grand theft auto and trespassing.Blight allegedly stole the backhoe from a nearby construction site and then tore through a nearby neighbor, driving through lawns and flattening Biden-Harris signs in the process. He also allegedly stole the signs from some residents' yards.NBC News reports that during the joyride, Blight allegedly knocked down a speed limit sign.Blight told police that he "had been drinking whiskey all day and did not remember most of the day," Haines City public information officer Mike Haines told NBC News. "He said that he couldn't help but hit the Joe Biden signs and acknowledged to taking down a fence in the process."According to The Associated Press, the city's former vice mayor, Adam Burgess, lives in the neighborhood, which is predominantly Black. In a Facebook Live video, Burgess called the incident a "hate crime."In addition to grand theft auto and trespassing, NBC News reports that Blight could face more charges in the coming days. 1296

A bomb threat caused the evacuation of parts of Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif. on Tuesday, prompting a large police response. The evacuation came around 6 p.m. on Tuesday. A lost Purple Heart award returned home on Wednesday. Tucson Police say one of their officers recovered a Purple Heart award from a local pawn store several months ago. But with the help of Purple Heart Reunited, they were able to track down the owner of the award and his family.The award belongs to Colonel Leon Elie Lyon. TPD held a ceremony today to return the Purple Heart to the family. Officer Jim Caccavale from TPD presented the Purple Heart to the recipient's grandson, Glen Lyon. There was also a representative from Purple Hearts Reunited. Lyon entered active duty on May 8, 1917 during World War I as an Engineer Officer. He graduated from Tulane University with a degree in science in 1894. After one month serving in WWI, he was promoted to Major and 13 days after that, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. During his service in France, Lyon was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He survived the war and was honorably discharged on Oct. 15th, 1919. He entered service again less than a year later and served until the early 1940's, making the rank of Colonel in 1942.Colonel Lyon married Emily Cornelia Knapp Lyon in 1907. She died young in 1938. The couple had one child, Oliver Day Lyon. Oliver served as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force and saw service in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Colonel Leon E. Lyon passed away on Dec. 9, 1943. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.  1452

  

A large group of Magnum, P.I. cosplayers were reportedly ejected from Comerica Park during Saturday's Detroit Tigers game.According to the News-Herald, the 45 men were dressed as Tom Selleck's famous character, Thomas Magnum, for a bachelor party. A family in Tennessee was able to escape their burning house thanks to their neighbor's rescue dog.The home in the Franklin, Tennessee neighborhood of Twin Oaks was seriously damaged in a fire caused by fireworks, officials say.Neighbor Jess LeCates said his 3-year-old Belgian malinois Roux was barking frantically at his front door around 10:20 p.m., about an hour after the homeowner threw fireworks near a trashcan outside, sparking the fire.Roux noticed the fire and led LeCates to the home where the roof and garage were already on fire. LeCates said he started banging on his neighbor's door to wake up the family of three and get them out of the house."I tried to put out the fire while the lady who lived there called 911," LeCates said.Thanks to Roux, everyone inside the home, including their pets, were able to escape unharmed.The Fire Marshal said the fire burned through some exterior features and much of the attic, causing an estimated ,000 in damage.Consumer fireworks are prohibited in Franklin.WTVF first reported this story. 1055
