SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A driver struck a fire hydrant outside San Diego International Airport Saturday, causing water to rocket into the sky outside Terminal 2 and headaches inside the airport.Terminal 2's East entrance on West Harbor Drive was temporarily closed after the driver struck the hydrant along the terminal's departure lanes around 10:40 a.m. Airport officials also closed Terminal 2 East's concessions and directed all traffic through Terminal 1.At one point, vehicles backed up onto Harbor Dr. as drivers encountered the closure caused by the geyser, according to a witness. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three people suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds this morning in the Mount Hope Community of San Diego, a police officer said.A group of people were in the area of Market and Denby streets about 1:45 a.m. when several gunshots were heard and three people were shot, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.A 39-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, a 32-year-old man was shot multiple times in the buttocks and legs and a 30-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his lips, Heims said.All three men were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds and police had no suspect information. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Chula Vista World War II veteran celebrated the 100th birthday of a lifetime, with help from hundreds of strangers.The celebration was made possible through Arthur Brook, a 9-year-old dedicated to preserving the stories of WWII veterans. He's been interviewing veterans living at the Veterans Home of California, Chula Vista"Since they were at least in their 90's, to be registered in the military during WWII, they wouldn't be here for much longer," said Arthur.When Arthur learned Army veteran Edwin Schwimmer was turning 100 in September, he wanted to give him a special gift. "We quickly made a decision to make it the most special birthday in a long time!" the 9-year-old added.Arthur put out a call requesting birthday cards and received hundreds from around the country. "So many people thought to send him cards, I just wanted to thank them all, who sent cards to Edwin Schwimmer to thank him for his service to our country," said Arthur. Schwimmer was stunned at the number of people who took the time to write him a letter.
