IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - A plan to build hotel rooms and apartments in Imperial Beach is one step closer to happening. The Design Review Board unanimously decided to move the plan to city council Thursday. The development is planned for an empty lot on 550 Highway 75. It will be a four-story development with 51 hotel rooms and 47 apartments. Developers say there’s a need for hotel rooms in the area. “There are less than a hundred units of hotel rooms in IB now,” said David Brienza, the developer with the Blue Wave Project, “IB needs a hotel community.” People living in the area raised concerns about impacts to the area, like noise and traffic. The design review board asked developers for look for ways to mitigate those concerns. If the plan gets the city council’s approval, developers say they could start construction by mid to late summer. 875

(CNN) -- Burger King is trying to get customers' attention with something a little different: Tacos.The burger chain started selling crunchy tacos on Tuesday. They cost in most places, but are more expensive in Alaska and Hawaii, and will only be available for a limited time.Burger King first tested out tacos in western states. "We've seen success with tacos in those restaurants and knew it was time to bring this west coast favorite nationwide," Chris Finazzo, president of North America for Burger King, said in a statement. The new item adds "variety" to Burger King's snack offerings, he added.Fast food chains use limited-time offerings to build hype and keep their brands top of mind with consumers. And tacos in particular are a good way to attract customers, said Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail, a research and consulting firm."Tacos remain very popular with consumers," Saunders said, adding that fast food companies that wouldn't traditionally sell tacos may be "keen to get a slice of that action."Jack in the Box in particular has had great success with its taco. The item has been "a #1 seller and a fan favorite for years," Jen Kennedy, VP of product marketing at Jack in the Box, told CNN Business in a recent interview. She said the taco has been a "stand out distinction for us." Jack in the Box also just started selling tiny, bite-sized tacos, but it's too early to say how they're doing.Consumers are also flocking to Mexican chains for tacos. Taco Bell's parent company, Yum! Brands, reported that in the first quarter, sales at US Taco Bell restaurants open at least a year grew 5%. (AP) -- Rudy Boesch, a retired tough-as-nails Navy SEAL and fan favorite on the inaugural season of "Survivor," has died after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 91.He died peacefully Friday night in hospice care in Virginia Beach, Virginia, surrounded by loved ones, said Steve Gonzalez, director of operations for the Seal Veterans Foundation.Boesch joined the Navy in 1944 and became one of the first SEALs in 1962. He served two combat tours during the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star for heroism, and retired from the Navy in 1990 as a master chief petty officer.Before his retirement, Boesch was honored as "Chief SEAL," or "Bullfrog." The title marks his time as the longest-serving SEAL still on active duty. He remained involved after he left the Navy, serving on the board of directors of the UDT Seal Association."He was a legend in the Seal teams long before 'Survivor,'" Gonzalez said. "Rudy was beloved by all and will be deeply missed."At 72, Boesch was the oldest contestant ever on the CBS show, taking third place the first year, 2000, on "Survivor: Borneo." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Candidates, who are looking to unseat Congressman Duncan Hunter, are feeling emboldened as his trial grows near. This week, the Congressman’s wife took a plea deal with prosecutors, in which she has agreed to testify against her husband in the trial scheduled for Sept. 16. Several candidates had already made plans to run in 2020 against before prosecutors flipped his wife, and they are now watching to see what unfolds in court. Many of the candidates have begun fundraising efforts, and some say donations to their campaign have ramped up in the past few days. Many currently vying for the District 50 seat are Republicans within Hunter’s party, like El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells who ran against Hunter in 2018. “I think my chances are now even better, I lot of people know me more,” Wells said. “A lot of people, they wanted to vote for me last time but felt conflicted about the Duncan Hunter situation.” Temecula council member Matt Rahn, who is also eyeing Hunter’s seat, expects to gain some of his followers as the trial goes on. “I expect to see some change in the folks that are showing interest as we see this case evolve and unfold but right now, we have a solid base,” Rahn said. A conviction won’t remove Hunter from office. It will take a two-thirds House vote to do that. However, if he survives the trial, there's likely going to be some political fallout. That gives Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar confidence he can turn the district blue. “I think people are going to be willing to put country over party and look past the 'D' next to my name.
