SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police have identified a man who was fatally shot in the Midway District this week, prompting a standoff with the suspect of the murder in North Park.San Diego Police received a report of the shooting just before 11 a.m. Sunday in the rear parking lot of the 24 Hour Fitness at 3675 Midway Drive. Police arrived to find 27-year-old Alexander Mazin of San Diego suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.Despite medial aid at the scene, Mazin died at the scene.RELATED: Fatal shooting leads to standoff between police, suspect in North ParkFollowing the shooting, police were led to the intersection of 30th Street and Upas St where an hours-long standoff began.Once SWAT teams entered the apartment, however, they did not find the suspect — identified as 41-year-old Ernesto Castallenos Martinez. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are alerting San Diego State students and neighbors after a man reportedly tried to steal a someone's phone before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.SDSU Police say the man approached the victim at about 9 p.m. in the 5500 block of Hardy Avenue on Wednesday. The man wrapped his arms around the victim and tried to take a cell phone from their hands, police say.The victim crouched down, grabbed their cell phone, and began screaming. A passerby saw what was happening and intervened, pulling the man off the victim.The man then jumped in to rear of a white sedan with tinted windows being driven by a second suspect.Police described the first suspect as a black male who appeared about 30 years old, 6-feet tall, with average build, short curly black hair and short facial hair. He was last seen shirtless, wearing dark-colored pants and basketball-style sneakers.The suspect in the waiting vehicle was described as a 20- to 30-year-old black female, wearing a gray or white shirt and her hair styled in a bun.Anyone with information is asked to call SDSU Police at 619-594-1991. 1109

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More people have tested positive at the San Diego Convention Center, which has been serving as a shelter for San Diego's homeless since April.Regular testing has been conducted at the Convention Center since the shelter opened, but there was a rise in positive cases starting with tests administered on Dec. 3. Since then, there have been 120 positive cases detected. According to city officials, 115 are clients and five are staff members.Prior to Dec. 3, the city says there had been 27 positive cases since April.Dr. Eric McDonald, medical director of the County Health and Human Services Agency's Epidemiology and Immunization Branch, released the following statement: 699

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police responded Monday after a vehicle crashed into a Chick-fil-A in Mira Mesa.The crash happened on the 10700 block of Camino Ruiz near Mira Mesa Community Park. Authorities say no one was injured.Due to the crash, the inside of the restaurant was closed for the day as a structural engineer inspected the damage. Authorities haven't said what caused the crash.  407
