SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This week, San Diegans will get the chance to learn about our armed services with several exhibits and tours as part of Fleet Week.Fleet Week runs Nov. 4-12 with festivities throughout San Diego, giving families the chance to get close up with America's military forces. Last year, more than 20,000 visitors took part in the festivities, learning about filed combat gear, touring the USS Harpers Ferry, and exploring the event's popular Innovation Zone.New this year, families can enjoy a Veterans Day parade and special veterans art exhibit, with works created by active duty, reservists, and veterans covering an array of mediums."San Diego is definitely a military town," Gordon Rutherford, Fleet Week San Diego president, said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The sailor hit by a spinning helicopter blade earlier this week at MCAS Camp Pendleton has died.MCAS Camp Pendleton said the sailor died Saturday morning from injuries sustained after the spinning tail rotor blade of a UH-01Y Venom Marine helicopter struck him.The helicopter was on deck at MCAS Camp Pendleton when the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.RELATED: Sailor critically injured by spinning helicopter blade at MCAS Camp PendletonThe sailor was brought to Scripps La Jolla Medical Facility with critical injuries after the incident.Officials are withholding the sailor's name pending family notification. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Zoo has a long history with pandas. Since 1987, the famous zoo has housed the adorable bears. Monday, the zoo announced that it was saying goodbye to two giant pandas, 27-year-old Bai Yun and Xiao Liwu. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Police Department says pedestrian fatalities are going up in California - so they're cracking down on drivers, pedestrians and those violating laws that pertain to motorized scooters. All of this, just as new reports show a flood of scooter-related injuries backing up local emergency rooms. Wednesday night SDPD sent out targeted patrols to downtown and Lincoln Park. Two spots where pedestrian and bike collisions have increased in the last three years. In many cases, traffic violations led to those crashes. 10News watched as officers ticketed more than 50 people, and gave out more than 20 warnings.
