SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The FBI is investigating following a hazmat situation in La Jolla Thursday afternoon. According to authorities, the incident started around 1 p.m. on the 9400 block of La Jolla Farms Road near UCSD and the Scripps Reserve trail. Throughout the afternoon, people who appeared to be workers at the home could be seen sitting outside with bags wrapped around their lower legs. The unidentified substance is being cleaned up by hazmat crews and, at this time, it's unclear what led to the situation. Neighbors say the home was being rented out and a new tenant recently moved in.The Department of Environmental Health said they found a contaminant and that it is contained with no threat to the community.The final Hazmat crews left around 7:30 p.m. 798

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Department of Public Health is warning the public after a recall was issued for nearly 50,000 pounds of sausage products due to contamination.According to the department, the products may contain pieces of white, hard plastic. Eddy Packaging Co. Inc. recalled the smoked sausage products due to the contamination.The products were sold at Walmart stores in San Diego, Chula Vista, National City, Oceanside, Poway, Santee and La Mesa.The products being recalled have the establishment number "EST. 4800" inside the USDA mark of inspection. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Historic Balboa Theatre will be celebrating a milestone Monday night. The famed venue will host a party in honor of its 95th birthday. The celebration will pay special tribute to the USO in a performance produced by Ric Henry, a San Diego song-and-dance sensation. The musical review will depict the musical history of the USO from the 1940s to the present. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir San Diego has filled the community with music, funded dreams, and kept African American history alive for three decades.The group started with a local alliance of ministers from different denominations who came together for an annual concert to raise funds for students aspiring to a career in visual and performing arts, according to the choir director Kenneth Anderson."I think they are woefully undervalued in our country the power of art and how it can connect and communicate and bring people together when we're so driven apart," 20-year choir member Dale Fleming said.In 1990, the singers decided to created the MLK Community Choir so they could sing year-round.Andersen said, "It was non-audition but somehow all of these different timbres and levels of musicianship come together to make a beautiful sound."The religious tone of the group has changed over the years. "Some don't really believe at all but we all believe in the power of music," Fleming said.They still sing gospel, and write their own hymns to keep Black history alive."A majority of the spirituals that survived were code songs. When they sang about leaders in the bible, especially Moses, but Jesus and God, that was code for Harriet Tubman," Anderson explained.The group has flourished, touring through seven countries, creating and selling CDs, even singing for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican in 2004. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Border Patrol says it has experienced a major uptick in violence at the border since the arrival of the migrant caravan. Assaults against agents are up 300 percent compared to this time last year, according to San Diego Border Sector Chief Rodney Scott.An agent was struck in the face shield with a rock thrown at the border on New Year’s Eve and was not injured. “These incursions are organized they are bringing people down there for the express purpose of provoking a confrontation,” said Border Patrol agent Joshua Wilson.
